Got it working but confidence is not high
Everything about this product is lacking. You only have to try and use it (when it's not even working) to get frustrated by the bright blue light in your face as you try to work out what the buttons are on top.. that you can't see because you're being blinded by the blue LED. Did anyone actually USE this product before pushing it to market? That's just the start though. Getting this (or any other CMEDIA chip based variant) to work on Windows 10 seems to be an exercise in frustration but I think I've managed to fight through it thanks to reading support on similar products (like Startech and Vanec which are all basically the same).Firstly, drivers. The link to adwits.cn in one of the product photos is dead. The product does come with a min-cdrom but who has one of those these days! If you do get access to that disk you'll find drivers for various machines, but if you just let Windows auto run setup I think it installs the wrong driver. Better to go to the Windows 10 directory and run the setup there. At that point you'll find that the device works as stereo and what is really confusing at that point is that the typical way you would tell Windows to use 7.1 isn't there in properties. You have to realize that it's installed a CMEDIA app which is kinda horrific. To get 7.1 working you have to right click on the "Speaker" icon and select "Speaker Settings" and choose 7.1.. but you're not done.. you then have to click the PLAY button that is on the little display of speakers that pops up. At that point the settings are remembered, but actually not sure if you have to do it again after reboot. To get to this point I've pretty much used up my quota of Windows 10 reboots for the week.

Partially discontinued by the manufacturer
The drivers come on a mini-CD. Nowadays, Desktop PCs don't come with a CD-ROM drive anymore so getting the drivers installed was an exercise in Google Fu. The Manufacturer refers you to the maker of the audio chipset, CMedia. CMedia's website wasn't forthcoming with a driver file. A Google search for the model of the chipset used in the soundcard linked me to a website that had the latest driver for the item and revealed that the chipset manufacture abandoned improving the drivers for the chipset. The latest driver, while functional in Windows 10, was written for Windows 8. Lord knows what hidden security holes or hardware issues may lurk just around the corner. This will do for now for my purposes but it looks like I may be forced to use an internal sound card in the future.I've got it up an running, and it sounds okay. Really not any different than my onboard audio with headphones. The real test will be when my 5.1 speakers arrive shortly. Sadly, if there's any sort of device incompatibilities that need addressing the tech support will be next to nonexistent.
