I've been having occasional psoriasis flare-ups for the last decade. Most of the time it's only in the same couple of places but this last one started several months ago and showed up where it hadn't before. I've been using some clobetasol creams over the years but the effectiveness wasn't as good as before. I finally decided to try phototherapy which has helped immensely during the 17 sessions I've had so far. My wife suggested that I should also NOT use anti-bacterial Dial soap, which I've used forever. Looking around at what people have said worked for them, I found pine tar soap so I decided to give it a try. (I've been using coal tar shampoo on-and-off for years.) First off, the smell/odor is very potent but surprisingly does not last on the skin all that long. It does lather fairly well, even without using a washcloth. Our house is plumbed with a soft water conditioner for the last 20+ years (San Jose, CA has very hard water) which in my opinion, leaves my skin very slippery and feeling like there's still a film of soap on it. So I tend to rinse very well. My skin does feel a bit less dry since using this soap, except for my hands which are currently very dry. I wash my hands a lot during the day cleaning out five cat litter boxes. And I use either the Dial soap or some liquid soap afterwards. I haven't yet resorted to using any moisturizer on my body but have used some on my hands the last two weeks, which seems to help. So far, I'm happy with Grandpa Soap and I'll continue to use it, even after the phototherapy ends.

Strong scent, if you don’t like earthy scents with tea tree oil don’t buy it. If you like earthy natural scents with no artificial “clean” scents then buy it. I have eczema, works pretty well with no adverse affects. Clean ingredients, good value.

This does a lovely job on dry winter skin. It doesn't smell pretty, of course, but the scent doesn't linger when your skin is dry. I'm happier with this soap than with the much more expensive body washes I use during the summer. I'd use it year-round, but I confess: I like those pretty scents.

If you've never smelled anything with pine tar, you must smell it before making a decision. Nothing you can read will accurately describe the strong and unique smell. I think another review stated is reminiscent of a campfire, and that's probably the closest comparison I can think of. And this product has a very, very, very, very strong scent to it. If you can get past the scent, it works great, feels good, lathers nicely.

I read some reviews on this as I'm having eczema issues and looking for soaps. Decided to give it a try. At first the smell was strong like a Bon Fire.... And it seemed OK. Wasn't sure how long I'd tolerate the smell and certainly not if I didn't see positive results. After about a month of using it I'm used to the smell....and awkwardly enjoy it LOL... But my skin loves this soap.... I can't believe how good my skin feels using it. Highly recommend. I also recommend not getting the bar of soap or your whole house will smell weird. Get the plastic tube of it. Smell doesn't stick around long on your skin.... Rinse the shower well after. Best I can do for a review. I'd like to buy cases of this stuff in case they stop making it.

Initially smoky pine scent. Pretty much gone after an hour. No sting, seem to reduce itchy skin.

The soap is moisturizing and nice. I know this is literally “pine tar” soap- but the smell of tar (I know) is a bit too much for me and I can’t use it because of that. I have had other pine tar soaps that did not smell as intense as this or they added essential oils to cover it.

This is exactly what I was looking for when I used to live in the small town of Idyllwild, California a decade ago or so I found this bar soap in a white box in a local boutique soap shop, only one in town. Anyway it was bar and it was pine tar pitch black. Lathered grey suds… i’ve been searching for it forever since so I’ve been buying every version of Pine Tar soap I can find an Amazon, hoping to find one that smells similar and then I found this one by Grandpa Soaps… this one is almost exactly the same thick lather and smell, Plus the Tea tree oil. the lather is of course not black or gray it’s a light creamy brownish color. But the smell of the forest fire in my shower is absolutely amazing and it feels great and the price is right. I’m sold my new favorite…. But yeah, I’m still always on the hunt for that bar soap.

Found it to be an excellent body wash when used with an abrasive flannel or sponge. Strong tar scent but not unpleasant and lathers very well. would recommend.

Skin feels smooth after 1st wash but it has a very strong "cigarette (tobacco)" smell. Despite me a smoker, I couldn't stand the "cigarette" smell from this bodywash.

This product is ideal for those with dry sensitive skin

I bought this due to a horrible outbreak of pupps rash during my pregnancy. A few people recommended it, I found it soothed my skin for long enough to get to sleep without itching and it was reassuring to know I was washing with a natural based soap. I actually LOVE the smell although many say it smells awful and I still use it even though my rash has gone! Lovely product
