Monocles are a bit less than half the weight of comparable binoculars, which also have the weight for the connection. This matters, as I use it to read a board in a classroom or meeting, or to see the band at a concert, or some other spectator situation. With a monocle, I can see with more clarity and detail than someone that has perfect vision. About 12 years ago, I got an Orion 10-25x42 Zoom. That has worked well, but I wanted something a bit more powerful. So, earlier this year, I got a 15-45x55 High Power Zoom. While more powerful, it is a significantly heavier than the Orion. In both cases, after a while, your arm gets tired, even if you switch hands. The best is when you have a desk or something you can rest your arm on. The Aurosport is a wonderful replacement for my old Orions (I have one for use outside of work, and another I leave at work to use in the workplace). It is also significantly lighter, and when closed completely is smaller for storage. There is a review that says they cannot get it to focus. Sometimes it can be a bit tricky -- all variable zoom monocles can be -- but if you can be patient you can find a good match for what you are looking at. I usually start at the maximum or minimum zoom and then try to focus. The one downside I have found is that the focus (not the magnification, by the eyepiece) is looser than the other monocles. This means, it is easy to bump it if you lower the monocle to rest or if you do not want to look through it for a while. So, just be careful to not bump the focus adjustment after you have it set to how you want it. Also, there are two modifications I made that might be useful to others: 1. I connected a lanyard to the tripod mount. Then I put the lanyard around my neck while using the monocle, and if I were to drop it, the monocle would not potentially be damaged and I do not have to look for it. 2. The case is like that of the Orion, where you could put a belt through it. However, that was one of the issues: if it is on the belt, it can get caught on things, eventually tearing the cloth of the case, and it can be annoying to loop through your belt. So, my solution was to use a bag strap. I use the FIEIL 3D Air Cushion Ultra Comfortable Bag Strap, 67" Thicken Shoulder Strap with Double Adjustable Buckles and Metal Hooks, and I have it come down my side of my body, not the side of my belt. This way it does not get caught on anything, and I just slip that over my head and put my arm through like a bandolier strap. Easy and effective. Review: Does what it is supposed to do at a great price - Bought it to see bullet holes in shooting targets 100-200 yds out. Works fine for that purpose at a very reasonable price. Took a while to figure out how to use it - be patient! Instructions not well written as usual with value imports. But construction is of solid quality and lens picture more than acceptable. For person saying it’s missing a screw - I don’t think it has one. The screw is part of a separate tripod- To use the lanyard - the small string part has to be worked through an opening at the top of the tripod port and then the larger lanyard part looped back through the small strings. You have to figure that out on your own because the instructions don’t mention it. I’m pleased enough and would recommend it for a distance viewer. EDIT: this is my first "monocular" and it took me awhile to figure out how to use it on the range. Best practice? set the distance to 10X - (turn the ring closest to the eyepiece end to where the little black arrow (its hard to see but it's one of the raised lines directly on the ring) points directly on 10X). Then use the lower ring to get that into clear focus. THEN go back and start to increase the magnification as far as you want by turning that upper ring towards 30X. doing that will probably distort the picture's focus but the adjustments using the lower end won't be that dramatic. The point is to start at 10X and work up from there. Just too hard to accomplish starting at 30. it actually works pretty darn well.... ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Way Better Than Expected — Very Nice Unit *by P***2 on December 26, 2020* Bought this over a month ago to field trial before giving as Christmas gift to daughter (wants to bird watch and duck hunt with dad). Am pleasantly surprised at the quality and performance. As an outdoorsman I have very high-end optics (Zeiss, Leupold, Nikon) so I know good optic performance. While I can’t speak to ruggedness or endurance of this Aurosports monocular (only time will tell), I will attest to its optical performance. It is bright and crisp throughout it’s power range. There is a bit of minor bleeding or blur (some may not even notice) at extreme outer edges of scope but I don’t find that to be a problem since object in view will most always be centered. This is just a NICE. LITTLE. UNIT. I saw some reviews with questions/confusion about ability to focus and effective use on targets close-in. The unit DOES focus, just learn how. (Think: retractable telescopic “pirate scope” and you’ll figure it out.) And it will handle targets as close as 6-7 yards in (10x). And 30x max zoom is just as clear (note at 30x you’ll need surgeon-stable hands or a tripod to stabilize). Don’t get your heart set on perfect directions, they lack. Christmas morning I had both my 20-something kids try the scope, independently, no directions. They both figured out how to extend, adjust 10x-30x power, and focus. Ok, they didn’t notice the eye cup. But that’s just an option to use or not (rotates CCW to extend the eye cup). They both used binoculars before so those basics of use apply here as well. And....was a factor in their ability to quickly figure-out the unit. This unit is more than worth the price.
