It depends on the temperature and your size of heater. Only Heaters or grills under 50-55K BTU will work properly on a 20# tank. Higher BTU heaters need larger tanks because they frost up and quit supplying the volume of gas or flow needed to work, the colder it is the worse this issue is. My 75-200K heater works fine on low at 25 degrees for 20 minutes and starts to not run at full temperature and will even stop with 1/2 a tank of propane. The recommendation is to have use larger tanks or use multiple tanks connected to your heater. I only use mine for heating a 2 car garage while needing to work when its 10 degrees or a fall party outside at 30-40 degrees. Amazon has a two tank hookup kit that I ordered tonight that I hope cures this problem of the propane freezing up from too fast of flow from the tank that causes an evaporation/ freezing issue in smaller tanks. **Q: does it produce fumes? is it safe to use inside?** A: slight order when initially lit, but dissipates. I use it in a closed garage and barn for heat. really do not notice fumes. we have dogs in the garage and it does not seem to bother them. **Q: is this a Liquid Propane ? or a gas Propane ?** A: all propane is put into a tank as liquid, it flashes off to a vapor (gas)...which in turn goes to the orifice and allows the flame... from the heat expert **Q: For a 2 car attached garage is the 50k-80k ample size for 32 degree temps? Would it make any sense going to a larger size on 20lb bottles only?** A: This will heat and keep warm the garage depending on the insulation, the issue becomes how often are yo running it and how cold it really gets. You are trying for a 45-50deg differential ... from outside this will do the job, really depends on the insulation!
