Was thinking it needs to be descaled?** A: The question and previous answers are all dated before the mfr redesigned this filter to address concerns about it clogging over time. I bought the new design in Jan 2018 and have not experienced any clogging problems in 6 mos of daily use. After brewing, I immediately dump the grinds and quickly use a soft bristled veggie brush on it under running hot water. That's all I've done for 6 mos. I brew with a medium grind and medium roast beans. If you use a dark roast and/or fine grind, you may experience some oil buildup. In that case, occasional cleaning in the top shelf of your dishwasher should be sufficient. **Q: What is the difference between the copper, gold, and stainless? Are they for different types of coffee makers? I have a chemex 6, 8 and 10 cup.** A: I bought the stainless filter and it works great. I doubt that there is a difference in the performance in whatever color you choose. I have a gold one for my electric coffee maker and it seems to function the same. **Q: Does this filter only hold enough grinds to make 2 cups?** A: The filter can hold 2 cups by volume, of coffee & water.
