A classic for a reason.
I've seen one-star reviews from customers who received this product in poor condition. That is not really the fault of Rhodia or their product, but the reseller's poor storage, handling, or shipping practices. While these customer experiences raise valid criticisms, I am fortunate not to share in them. The Rhodia Dot Pad I received was in perfect condition. It bears thin, flexible plastic sheets top and bottom, and furthermore, beneath the bottom sheet, a thicker, cardboard backer which would enable one to write on the pad while standing. They nailed the dots, which is not as easy as it may seem: The dot grid is distinct enough to be visible and useful, even in diminished light, but also subtle enough to disappear into the background if you're not looking to be distracted by it. The paper is smooth and fountain-pen friendly; I've observed no bleed-through and only minimal ghosting with the inks I have used. Color is bright white. It feels slightly toothier and doesn't provide quite the same experience as the 90-gsm Clairefontaine paper used in the parent company's other notebooks, but those are usually more expensive anyway. For everyday use, this is a good and economical choice. For an everyday notebook for jotting down thoughts and to-do lists, this meets my needs and expectations extremely well.

Dreamy paper is inspirational
The Rhodia Notepads Graph Black Wb 8.3 x 11.7 is a dream to write on. The large dimensions allow it to be held comfortably on the lap, so a table or desk aren't required as often is the case with smaller pads of paper. The paper is white, the grids are gray, and they are perfectly printed. With micro perforations at the top of the page, removal is simple. I just received two pads and both are interesting in that the wire binding on both pads is finished with all four ends of the wire is turned in toward the center of the page. Imagine that they have been pushed inward so as to secure the spiral wires. I didn't notice this in the pads I checked out at a pen store prior to my purchase, but both of these pads share the characteristic, so there you have it. I have used mechanical pencil, rollerball, fiber tip and fountain pens on the paper and each works well. Because the paper is so smooth and substantial in weight, even with a fountain pen using dark black ink, I am able to flip a sheet over and continue writing on the reverse side. Therefore, on an 80 sheet pad, I have 160 pages which to cover with ink or graphite. I prefer the wire bound pads to the stapled pads because of the ease with which I can have a single sheet visible and I find the pad to be sturdy enough to require no other backing. Fountain pen nibs move more smoothly on this paper than most others I've used lately, and I am reminded why I first bought a pad of Rhodia paper in France many, many years ago. The graph option is my favorite but I'm likely to try the dot next. My only criticism of purchasing this from Amazon is that a sticker is applied to the back of the pad and it's annoying to work to fully remove the residue. It took a lot of rubbing because I didn't want to apply anything even though the covers are water resistant. Be aware that your pad of paper will likely not remain pristine for long. These are made to be filled and that means they will be touched, often moved from place to place. They don't hold up like a bound journal will because they are simple bound sheets of paper in a thin front and back cover with a cardboard sheet inserted at the back of the sheets of paper for support.

Great scratch pad, whatever ~ Rhodia Wirebound Notepad - Lined 80 sheets - 6 x 8 1/4 - Black cover
Rhodia paper, lined, great for notes with fountain pen/fountain pen ink. Not a hard spine, so very easy to use for whatever you want, an just flips over to the next sheet. Hard spined notebooks seem more journal orientated, but for quick notes, this one is excellent. (get 2 when you purchase, and you don't run out unexpectedly... )

Solid fountain pen notebook. Good price.
I use this Rhodia pad a lot. It is good fountain pen paper for a reasonable price. The wire bound notepads are great for use on a desktop. Opens to the dimension of a single page. Much more convenient for notetaking than a journal type notebook. Perforated pages are a nice feature.

Excellent for writing
What makes this notebook special is the pages turn at the top, not the left. What this means in usage is you can slide the page up when you get to the bottom quarter -- your hand position never changes as you write to the bottom of the page. Most notebooks are bound at the left so when you write past the 2/3 to 3/4 point your wring hand falls off the paper to the table. . This changes the angle of the pen and of the writing. Also, the paper may not be flat closer to the spine. For most people that's a who cares moment. But if writing is important to you (e.g., you write with fountain pens or you are creating calligraphy) the difference matters -- and you already know that because you are considering buying this product. Go for it! As for the paper... excellent quality for any kind of pen or pencil.

My Go-To Notebooks
There are volumes written about different papers, how they interact with different inks, and on and on. Just remember nothing is "the best", so you have to explore what works for you based on your ink, nib, pen, writing style, etc. I got into FPs about a year ago, and these ended up being my notepad of choice for quite a while. Ink seems to stand off a bit which slows drying time compared to Midori, and maybe faster than Tomoe River? I have all three of these papers, though these Rhodia pads are wonderfully made, I love the writing feel, and super flexible with the fine perforation that allows consistent removal of pages. I recommend folding each way before tearing off of course, but I don't remember having any ripped pages due to poor perforating. Drying/smudging - I use a wide variety of inks, and very often it's some gorgeous high sheen ink that's far more beautiful than practical. Diamine "Polar Glow", Organic Studios (all high-sheen like Walden and the like) tend to smear, sometimes days after writing. Blotting helps with that if I'm writing a letter or something, and this paper is so good with the intended sheen that those inks that they light up almost 100%. Since I use it mostly for note taking now, I just tend to use more practical inks that aren't as gonzo about special characteristics. I actually bought these lined ones by mistake, as I much prefer dotted grid. Same paper and A5 is my jam, so whatever. Bonus thought - The wire binding is black... Such an awesome touch, as it gives these pads/notebooks an extra element of class and refinement vs. the usual notebook wire that gets hazy as it oxidizes. Such good notebooks.

Good fountain pen notebook, not the best
Great notebook to use with fountain pens, but not my favourite due to how glassy smooth it can feel depending on the nib. I like using this with finer nibs with a tad bit more resistance.
