A FIST in your FACE!
I put this one in my car recently after having it for a couple years. While I liked it the first few times I heard it, when I 'rediscovered' this playing it in the car back and forth to work, I realized what a gem it is. It starts off with a couple good rockers, with 'Make My Day' really getting the fist pumping and then it slows down a bit for the next two and you start to wonder if this album is going to have the steam to make it, but then you get a nice six minute Whitesnake type blues rocker/ballad in 'Let it Be' with great guitar work and vocals and you start getting back into it. LET IT BE got me through some difficult traffic and was an exciting and yet calming influence at the same time. The next song is a ballad that works well especially after the euphoria that is Let It Be. Then you get another good rocker, then Track 8 hits you like an ABSOLUTE FIST IN YOUR FACE! Wow, if you are not fully into it by then, well, this music just isn't for you. The rest of the album retains its momentum with very solid melodic rockers. There is plenty of nice variety in here and the album overall is a great pleasure to listen to....so good that I just had to write this review. I have most of the Gotthard albums but after listening to this one again, I WANT MORE so I will be searching out the few that I don't have now.

The best get even better
Most of us melodic rock fans know, 1996 was not an ideal time to release an album if you sounded anything like bands from the 80's. Fortunatly for all of us, Gotthard never recieved the memo, and went on to release one of the best melodic rock albums of the 90's.With the release of "G", Gotthard unveiled a slightly more mature sound. While the melodic/party rock element is still on the forefront, the songwriting and overall feel of the record are a little different from previous albums. That being said, we all know that these guys simply don't release bad records, and "G" is not exception. Steve Lee's voice is still amazing as usual, Leo Leoni's guitar plaing and writing is over-the-top as always and the rythym section is tight as a bank teller's cash drawer. One of the biggest treats of this record to my ears is the amazing covers of "The Mighty Quinn"(Bob Dylan) and "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother"(The Hollies), the originals are good and all, but Gotthard take these tracks out of the park. Other favorites are "Sister Moon", "Sweet Little R&R" and "Lay Down The Law", but like I said earlier, every song is listenable.Just go buy this release. You have read several reviews, heard the snippets, even watched the videos, trust me it's worth the couple bucks you pay for it. You won't be disappointed.

A song that soars!
I have loved Gotthard for such a long time and was so sad when their leader and voice passed away. This album hit me rather late in my search for more music by my favourite Swiss band but here is a lyric that drew me to this album and more...Falling, falling, wishing you nearBut somehow you slipped awayLike ice in the sunAlready gone

Give this album a chance
With "G" (1996), Gotthard show that they have developed musically. Even if their earlier albums have been good, this one is a lot better. It sure seems as Gotthard have put a decent amount of effort into the song writing and arrangements as well. "G" is an album for those who love great singing and melodic rock without a layer of cheese. Especially singer Steve Lee and guitar player Leo Leoni shine, and the rhythm section is really tight. The music business is not fair which Gotthard is a living proof of. This band hasn't made it big and it's a shame because I know that there are a lot od people out there who would love this melodic and skilful heavy metal/ hard rock band if they only knew about them. I highly recommend this solid and strong four star album (close to five stars) and if you chose to take a chance on this album, you will get groovy tunes like "Sister moon" & "make my day", speedy rockers by the name of "Moving on", "Hole in one", and "Ride on", heavy numbers such as "Fist in your face", a great cover of Dylan's "Mighty quinn", and of course a couple of slower ones in "One life, one soul" & "let it be".

I can't believe that no one's reviewed this yet!! First off-what a great band!! I love all the influences that I hear in their brand of hard/pop rock!! And they wear them all so well. Throw together Bad Company,Coney Hatch,AC/DC,Whitesnake,Van Halen..hell-you name it!! Just great 'pared-down' straight ahead rock n' roll, and a smattering of also-great ballads.Even a coupla cool tastefully done covers here ( Mighty Quinn & He Ain't Heavy,He's My Brother). This is truely a great rock n' roll disc AND band. Get This NOW..you won't be sorry!Enjoy!!

Genial
