Cool lamp, but smaller then expected. Light is very good. Fit and finish is good with tight fitting glass globe.A little pricey for what it is but still like having well made products.I believe these are handmade in USA, which is why they cost as much as they do

The pewter is really an aesthetically pleasing choice for this lamp. I was pleasantly surprised that the craftsmanship matches what you'd expect from such an expensive lamp-- especially considering that a good lamp can be bought for 6-12 bucks at Hobby Lobby.The burner section is really masterfully built. Personally, I'd be more likely to buy another if it was just a bit cheaper (for the captain model 150-ish bucks). But, I don't regret my purchase and fully intend to enjoy such a nice design. Overall, I think it's a bit overpriced, but you definitely get top quality.

Received this lamp as a gift, and it is extraordinarily well made. The chimney is a delicate, high quality glass with no distortions, and the base is a beautiful, brushed heavy pewter, that even empty of the oil, is very stable. The only negative that comes to mind is that, due to the thinness of the chimney, it is a little tricky setting it in place after lighting the wick, as the heat transfer to the glass, is immediate, and widespread, so be sure to start off with the flame as low as possible, and put it on as quickly as you can without risking breaking the base of the chimney.

Highest quality I have ever seen in an oil lamp. Wick holder reforms flat wick into tubular configuration as it advances upward into the burn position resulting in a large, bright flame. The flame is high enough above the table to illuminate a plateful of food if used as primary lighting.

If you are a serious fan of kerosene lamps, as I am, there's just nothing that matches Danforth. . .The pewter bases are hand-turned in Middlebury, Vermont (I've been there to watch), the burners and chimneys are from France. . .Breathtaking simplicity and elegance. They are among a handful of objects in my life that have transformed my life. Just remember--if you're buying one for the first time because they are so beautiful--don't turn the wick up beyond the rim of the base when you light it! I gave one to a friend as a gift, but she'd never owned a kerosene lamp and just figured the wick probably needed to be clearly visible and the sudden flame and heat made the chimney explode. That was a bit of a mistake on my part. . .

We purchased this as a housewarming gift for our daughter and son-in-law. They were thrilled with it - and so were we. They aren't cheap, but they are worth every penny, in terms of craftsmanship and the sense of "solidity" they convey.
