Hoarders: Season 1

i wonder why i watched this and thought it was entertaining
Hoarders is about really nice people who may or may not have an organic, chemical issue around their compulsion to hoard. They do have a behavioral issue that affects their life, their family and their neighbors. Like the alcoholic or the drug addict, the onus is on the hoarder to get help and get better. These 'nice' people are still responsible for the damage they inflict through their behavior. Sometimes their children are taken away. Sometimes their children run away because they are ashamed of the home they life in. Sometimes the enabling spouse gives up and can't take it anymore, leaving the hoarder alone with their 'things.'They oftentimes end up alone. But never completely alone. The rats stay loyal. The feces remains. The dead animal carcasses remain. These people are on a different wavelength. Wait until they wake up! And realize 2 or 3 million people have a dvd watching the intimate details of their lives. Kind of like mental and emotional rape. And who's the perpetrator(s)? The producers? The consumers of the dvd?Wait until these poor souls wake up to what they gave their consent. They're NOT awake during the series or dvd. So I doubt they were awake when they agreed to be exploited by the producers. Three days of oftentimes barely seen progress along with a pop psychologist may or may not wake them up.Such 'nice' people, these hoarders. Meanwhile, they cause the entire neighborhood's property values to decrease - and there couldn't be a worse time for that than right now, with the economy (we have a neighbor with this issue).Another take on the show is how cringe-worthy and entertaining it can be, even for a judgmental sort like myself, to watch these people. It's shocking. It also works quite well as a sort of foreplay for my housecleaning. You'll be revved up for spring cleaning, bathroom cleaning or any job in your home after watching the filth these people live in.So there are a lot of different takes on this show. There came a time, when I woke up, like I'm hoping these hoarders also experience, when I asked myself,'why am I watching this?'

Ok but seem condensed
The later seasons are 90 minutes. These seemed very short and condensed content.

This is a great DVD to hoard, if any
If you think your a hoarder, then watch this DVD and be surprised and maybe grateful that you don't have it as bad as some of these folks. Great buy. Thank you once again sweet Amazon. Rented from library and was happy to see that Amazon had it in stock.

VERY INSPIRING!
I'm a person without pay-tv, so being able to see this show is such a treat. Almost anyone will tell you, watching this show makes you want to organize and clean your own house, at least that is how me and my friends see it. I watched the whole season in a couple days and then did a thorough cleaning of my garage, then did a pre-Christmas selling trip to the swap meet, followed by the thrift store. Now I am ready to order another season-- but to dismay, it appears that the only other episodes on DVD are Season two- Part One!! I'm hoping that more become available. I know I could watch it online probably, but I really don't like to watch things on the computer. Plus, this is a program I'll watch again & again, so it'd worth it to own it on dvd.

Seeing is believing - and this is unbelievable!
We get limited stuff on AFN (Armed Forces Network), so I really wanted to see what one of my coworkers was talking about. I cannot believe that people live like this. This DVD really opened my eyes to what goes on behind people's doors and in their heads. I found this to be interesting a something to show my husband when he complains that I have too many articles of clothing. I actually got rid of over 20 bags of clothes because of this show - I want to be nothing like these people. I think it was well worth the price and this item got to me in just a little over a week. I would buy from this seller again.

Loved this series, so glad I bought it
I loved Hoarders when it aired on Foxtel in Australia. I found it addictive to watch, so just had to buy the DVD's.Most episodes I really enjoyed, although there are a couple of really depressing stories.... The young guy whose father is an alcoholic, and also the lady with all the cat corpses in her garage.Certainly an eye-opener, and makes me feel so much better about our piles of clutter. Also helps me think about why I really need to keep stuff. I only wish there had been more "behind the scenes" footage on the DVD's.Thoroughly recommended, and I'm looking forward to Season 2 when it comes out.

I thought I was bad!
This show is my new "guilty pleasure." I sit & wonder what triggers this behavior? I realize that some hoarders are older, and having lived through the depression, they have the "nothing gets thrown out" mentality, but there are an equal number of younger people with this disease. We all become a slave to our possessions, but having to walk a narrow path from room to room, because things are piled up all over is a shame. I shudder when there are no sanitary facilities, and the person is forced to find other means for dealing with that. This is a real eye opening series, and it can be a bit shocking in parts.

Unusual
It is something to see how "crazy" people can get and how much they can rely on "stuff." A real sickness which is dangerous to one's mental and physical health. I just kept rolling my eyes not believing that people actually chose to live this way. But then it becomes a mental dependency and is hard to break and they don't see the danger.
