Review: Bought 2 of them - Works great! - I read through the reviews before purchasing, and knew about the quality concerns with the alligator clips ahead of time. I ordered one for my Dad's 2001 Toyota Avalon back in really December, which was parked in his driveway in Delaware and barely used due to medical issues and having a newer vehicle available... but he wanted me to start it once in a while to keep the battery charged while he was in the hospital for an extended stay. The cold temps were depleting the battery, and this was just enough to keep it topped off on charge so that it didn't need a jump start. I liked it so much that I ordered a 2nd one for my 95 Grand Cherokee back home in Arizona, which wasn't being used at all while I was in Delaware helping my sister care for my parents and keeping up with their house. When I went to install the 2nd one on the ZJ, the battery terminal on the red top Optima battery was a bit bigger than the Avalon's regular battery and the alligator clip broke when trying to get it on the positive terminal. I knew when I was doing it that trying to get it on the larger terminal and squeezing the clip would stress the plastic and spring, but I did it anyways... and it broke in half. I tried to put it back together, but that obviously wasn't working - so I reached out to the company and explained what happened offering to purchase a new set of connectors. Their Customer Service was stellar, and in top of the immediate apology for my dilemma they sent out a replacement set of connectors which were received that same week. Amazing response time & quick shipment of the replacement negated any complaint that I had with the product - and installing the new alligator clips on the ZJ this time with a bit more delicacy and finesse so as to not over flex the spring or stress the plastic on the larger terminal. I returned back to Delaware after being gone for 5 weeks. The original unit was still with the green light, parked facing to the sun attached to the outside of the windshield - which it had direct sunlight from about 9am to 4pm daily. The old Avalon fired right up like the battery was brand new! I spent a month in Delaware, and after getting back to Arizona I tested the ZJ - also parked facing the sun with the solar charger attached to the outsiden of the windshield and getting direct sunlight from 7am to 5pm. The 5.2 liter V8 fired right up with no lag like it was still being driven daily. I'm happy with the product quality and performance, and highly recommend it for anyone who has a secondary vehicle that doesn't get a lot of use to avoid the frustration of discharge and having to jump start.

**Q: What is the actual length of the charging cable? Need to know how far away I can place the panel from the battery**
A: The main cord is 8ft. long with the the two connecting cords, ie, one to use when connecting to the battery and one to use when connecting through the cigarette lighter are about 15" each.

**Q: Can i just connect the black and red clamps directly to an electric fence? Or do I need anything else?**
A: You just need to connect the sun to the alligator clips to the battery and the other end sae head to the solar panel.

**Q: can I use this for light in my barn**
A: You could if you connected it to a small 12v battery and used some of the 12 LED retrofit light kits they use for the interior of cars or an 12v led strip. I'd suggest maybe a 12v CCTV battery to make it affordable. Unless you are talking about large amounts of light, then you probably would be better off with some kind of pre-made solar light kit.

**Q: Does this unit have a charge profile controller for lead acid batteries, they prevent over charging & shut down the current as battery approaches 12v?**
A: It has no controller.
But if you charge small batteries, you need a controller.
If you charge a large battery, you don't need a controller because its current is relatively small and it won't cause overcharging.

This solar panel charger works great. My car’s alarm system is draining the battery so I bought this solar charger. I use the car once a week and it barely starts or the battery is low so this keeps it charged. The true test was the last two weeks, I was out of town and came back and it started right up. I clamp it onto the battery clamps that are on the posts and thread the wires to the charger through the hood near the windshield wipers and where the door closes. I put the panel on the dash which gets partial sun all day. I disconnect the clamps from the battery before starting and it started right up. Installing is easy. If you have a “live” cigarette lighter when the engine is off, then you can plug it into the lighter aka usb plug in.
