Since you can't wash them, you will have to remove them when it's time to wash your hat. The easiest way to do that is to sew a button to the inside top of the hat (I used a 1-5/8" button) using cotton yarn. The tiny elastic loop on the pom-pom will fit very snuggly and is easy to remove and put back on. If you make the mistake of washing these little tribbles, you will have nothing but one, big matted mess. They looked crimped when i took them out of the packaging, but it was fixed by around 15 seconds on high and hot with my hairdryer. The balls have uneven fur lengths to give it more of an edgy and realistic look. However, I was least impressed with the brown color. The coloring was uneven and did not look like the picture advertised. I really liked both grays, the white, and the light brown (it is more of a dusty pastel pink).
