Depends, up to 3 if they are full or up to 4-5 if they are not full. I am able to get 4-6 plastic shopping bags comfortably.

What are the inside dimensions of the bottom?

The same size as the platform it sits on. 12" wide x 8" deepi am sorry someone had a bad experience because I love this trolley, it's really sturdy on NY city pot holed streets. Used it at least 12 times and it's still good as new. I only use it for groceries and which are way too heavy to carry, but this is easy walking with the one strong handle and good wheels.Hope this helps
