The texture/consistency is more liquid than a real maple syrup, but it's still perfectly okay to use either in recipes or for pouring straight and consuming it. The calories are very few indeed (can't remember now off the top of my head, but you can see them on the back label in the photo), so I allow myself to indulge guilt-free. As for the taste of it, perhaps the most important thing, it is good, it is sweet, very similar to maple syrup but not quite the same, obviously.
