Is the sweatband actual leather or PU?

The beret I purchased, the band has a short stitching gap that allowed for inspection, with a magnifier, of the back side. The back side has short hair fibers and the surface of the band has pores. This strongly suggest the band is a leather substance. Really nice beret by the way.

Good question. I no longer have the package it arrived in. May want to contact the seller for the manufacturer information if still listed on Amazon.

How do you wear this beret correctly? Does the adjustable tie go in the back? I read that some people cut out the hard plastic..what is its purpose?

The tie is toward the back. I think the plastic liner, a square, is to prevent sweat of the head from affecting the fabric.
