Islamic Coins and Their Values Volume 1: The Mediaeval Period

How can you group all these countries under Islamic coins ? Would you have grouped all coins in none Islamic countries as Christian coins? Why has the author in his ignorance and arrogance still over generalises a huge area of countries with diverse cultures, languages and different religions under the banner of religion for identification? Seldom was any Quranic verses ever used on coins as this would have been ‘haram’ and therefore they never were regarded as Islamic coins. Simply as coins from East, West . We are in 21st century and you guys still use medieval and even colonial terms to lump such diverse worlds into just religion as their main identity. Do your research properly before writing .

I like the way on how the book is color printed. It is informative because it has appendices which will guide on how to read dates in coins. It has both image and price value

It is more beautiful than I expected, with about four color photographs per page on each of 268 pages (there are another 20 index and preface pages). The Arab-Byzantine series is covered (not in depth, only 18 types) and the Arab-Sasanian (more deeply, 120 types) and, important for me, the Turkoman figural bronze. It seems to list (but with no discussion) all the types in Spengler and Sayles (you will still want their book for its extensive commentary) and it lists other types they did not get to in their two volumes (Spengler took ill and died before the series could be completed). It has very little historical commentary. However, even if you don't have a deep interest in Islamic coins, you might like this book just because it is so beautiful and illustrates so many coins.

Very informative book
