A: Yes they can

**Q: can someone recommend an amp for these speakers?**
A: I wouldn't bother with an amp. I've got a Pioneer 50x4 stereo.  that's 22watts continuous output per channel and it's plenty loud. So much so my doors vibrate. I don't think these are really 400watts per pair unless it's the total of each individual part summed up... but they do sound good. Great bass, clean mids & Heights even at high volume. I'm happy with them but I'm going to get a subwoofer just so I don't have to drive them so hard
