Very quality pillow
First impressions: I ordered a 14" by 20" and while smaller than your average pillow, I feel this will be more than enough, at least for myself. The smell is a natural, light, fresh and pleasant scent. There's no overpowering earthy musty smell that I read about in other reviews. The outer case itself is very soft with some cushion and nice quality, I love that it can easily be removed for washing. The zippers are super easy so opening it up to adjust the filling amount is a snap. I'm actually happy with the amount in it so that's where I'll start, it feels incredibly comfortable. The buckwheat shells are much softer and lighter than I had expected. They aren't hard or crunchy but very light and delicate. The noise made from them when moving on the pillow is nothing louder than microbeads (so not noisy at all), but they are much more supportive. When lying down on it I immediately noticed a very relieving support to my neck that instantly relieved tension. The buckwheat isn't so firm that it feels too stiff like some pillows that mold and then you practically have to beat them to get them to give like a firmer bamboo or memory foam, rather it adapts for you without giving too much like a worn out/ emptied goose down pillow. So, overall it smells nice, it's size is customizable, it's made out of quality materials, and it seems to be a properly supportive pillow. I suffer with migraines, fibromyalgia and myofascial pain syndrome from back injuries, and have been through ergonomic spinal pillows, memory foam, bamboo, neck pillows, goose down, the list goes on- hundreds of dollars spent on the search for the right pillow. I'm desperate for relief and a good night of sleep, this pillow seems promising, so I will update my review after trying it out for a month.

Great Pillow...Love that it's adjustable to fit specifically for everyone!!!!!!
This pilow is awesome! It has two zippered pillow cases..inner zippered pillow keeps the buckwheat filler intact and the thick outer pillowcase is very soft and comfortable. The fact that's it's adjustable is a bonus for those looking for the "Perfect Pillow". You can take out as much filler, as needed, to mold to your head/neck/shoulders. Bonus that it comes with it's own carrying case for travel. This a very comfortable pillow allowing for a good night's rest...Love it. Highly recommend it!!

Wonderful pillow
I had a buckwheat pillow years ago... we won’t go into how many lol. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it until I tried to find another pillow recently to try to help my neck pain. In the last two years I’ve tried 6 different pillows... including memory foam and cervical. Most were...ok. And costly. A few months ago I ran across this buckwheat pillow and remembered how much I enjoyed the last so I took a chance. I’m glad I did. It’s very well made and I love that you can adjust the filling to your desired firmness. I you have never slept on a pillow like this before you should be aware that it is a different experience. There is some crinkling sound as you get settled but you quickly get used to it. Your head stays cooler and it cradles your head without feeling like it’s trying to smother you. It is easy to reposition to adjust level of support for neck or side sleeping. I’m in love. As an aside I purchased the Japanese size and was frustrated with how my pillowcases flopped and bunched although I love the size of the pillow. I’m a little OCD lol. But I discovered that the pillow fits the pillowcase perfectly if you turn it 90 degrees and place it sideways... then you just smooth out the excess and fold it under... perfect fit

Terrific Product
When I got home about 2 pm today, my pillow had been delivered. I opened the box and removed the pillow from plastic bag. I was immediately impressed with the soft, zippered, washable cover. I immediately put it in a pillowcase to give it a quick tryout. Well, I didn’t wake up until 7 pm. The pillow supported my neck in all the right places. Tempur-Pedic, My Pillow, goose down, and a myriad of other pillows failed, but buckwheat hulls to the rescue. There is no odor to this pillow and I had no allergic response to sleeping on it.

Great neck support and spinal alignment, but VERY stinky at first
I finally found the pillow that's just right for me! I'm a combo side and back sleeper, 5'2" female, ~130 lbs, and am prone to low back and shoulder pain, plus tension in my neck and shoulders. After trying numerous styles of pillows that didn't quite fix all my problems, this one is the answer! I no longer have back or shoulder pain, and my shoulder tension is noticeably reduced (still tense, but not painful... I don't think I'll ever be rid of it completely). Pros: -firm but doesn't feel hard, unlike firm memory foam and some other firm pillows (doesn't hurt my face or ears) -easy-to-shift filling allows me to change sleep positions without as much sleep disturbance (unavoidable) -easy-to-shift filling allows me to make the pillow whatever shape I need to be comfortable -nice pillow slip; soft, seems durable, and mutes the poky buckwheat hulls without negating the nice, subtly grainy plant texture -sleeps very cool! I'm a hot sleeper and sometimes wake up drenched in sweat, but this hasn't happened since I got the pillow, and I haven't once woken up with a hot or sweaty face/head. Cons: -the BIG STINK. The pillow had a strong smell comparable to chlorine or acetone when it arrived; I have no idea why it smelled so bad. It was so strong that it made our apartment stink, too. I let the pillow air out outside in the heat and sun during the day for three days before the smell /mostly/ dissipated... there's still a faint odor after having the pillow a week, but it's not bad. Fortunately the pillow is so comfortable that I was able to sleep on it even when it reeked. -pillow is a bit noisy, but this isn't really a true "con" because I got used to it after the first two nights, and even while I was adapting, it did not disturb my sleep or my partner's sleep. I don't even notice it anymore. As I've only had the pillow a week, I'm curious to see how long it is before I need to replace the buckwheat filling. I'll update when I find out. UPDATE (3 months after purchase): The pillow's smell is still present but so faint I don't usually notice. I'm considering picking up some dried lavender from a craft store to get a nice aromatic affect. Sadly, the magical comfort has worn off a bit. The pillow has become comparatively hard, I assume from the breakdown of the buckwheat. I had hoped it would last a little longer than just 3 months. This might be because the pillow was underfilled, like many reviewers complained. I didn't care at first because it was at just the right fullness for me. Despite my disappointment, I'm not giving up on the pillow yet since buckwheat hulls are not super expensive to replace (~$6/lb); right now I think the level of comfort I experienced for those 2-3 months might be worth a long-term quarter-annual subscription fee.

More restful sleep
The firmness may feel odd at first but after laying there you can feel why you need this. The firmness is what makes it so great. I bought another one for my husband after I made him try it for a night. It has a great amount of buckwheat hulls and you can even remove some to adjust. This will last a long time! Update: we are getting the most restful sleep we’ve had in a long time. I ended up having to remove some hulls so that my neck isn’t too craned and feels much more comfortable for me. I kept the ones I removed in a baggie. Great product and even better results.

MUCH BETTER than the other top brand. Didn’t help my pain but I love it anyway.
I got the little travel sized one a few months ago and I was so mad at myself for not measuring it out and seeing how small it was. I could technically use it as a pillow but just barely. So I bought a different brand of buckwheat pillow full sized. AND I HATED IT compared to the little one I bought from these guys! Used it for an hour and my ear went painfully numb and my back instantly started hurting. The cover was not flexible at all and was like a tarp. I got the bigger version of this brand which was really nice and comfy. It didn’t help my migraine and neck pain at all (no pillow can) but I still use it every day as a desk on my stomach in bed as well as a way to weigh down my heating pad on my abdomen. It great. And the pillow case has held up a surprisingly long time.

A little disappointed
I had high hopes for this based on the reviews, but I've had it for about a month now, and I'm not super happy with it. I will say that it is very well made, and that the outer cover is really nice and soft, and the packaging was also really nice. I tried it a few nights with all of the hulls inside. It's very firm this way, but i wanted to get an idea of the comfort level. Then I removed quite a bit of hulls, about 4 cups in total. (I recommend storing them in a ziploc bag). After a few nights, it was way too soft. I added half the removed hulls back in, and still not comfortable, and what I discovered was, that the design is a bit flawed. When you remove some hulls, and then sleep on the pillow, you will find that the hulls move to the sides of the pillow, and your neck ends up not supported at all. I think it should be sewn in a way where there are divided off areas that are filled with hulls. That way, you could be certain to keep a certain amount in the center even if you decide to make the pillow really soft and flexible by removing some hulls. I guess I am keeping it, but I have refilled the pillow with all of the hulls, and am only using it for reading in bed.
