AT LAST we find a FANTASTIC humidifier
We have a two year-old and about a year ago when she got her first really nasty cold I ran out minutes before the drugstore closed (the one with the abbreviated name like CBS). Ehem. When I lugged the Vick's brand humidifier to the counter they all but held me by my ankles and shook every last coin out of my purse. That was fine -- my daughter was sick -- so if this is what a really good humidifier cost to help her sleep well then I was happy to pay whatever they were asking. I forked over the pirate's ransom (three times what this penguin one costs) to help my child sleep better. When I got it home the disappointed started immediately. It was bulky, heavy, and awkwardly shaped. The lights were so bright my daughter's room may as well have been on the Vegas strip. It made very loud "glugging" noises throughout the night that made my light-sleeper child stir or wake (which is the ultimate in upsetting when we took painstaking efforts to get her asleep while sick). Imagine sleeping next to a busy office water cooler with the big air bubble that goes up and makes the glugging sound after each use; that's what the Vick's is like. To combat the light problem I had to duct tape a black sock to it and then use half a roll of duct tape to cover all of the tank walls where the light shone through the water and lit the thing up like a Christmas tree. It wasn't my brightest MacGyver moment but I had a sick, tired two year-old so I used what I had in front of me. The Vicks one got stinky often (and not from the sock!) plus it was hard to clean. Finally, one day a year later I stumbled across this lovely penguin. I read all the wonderful reviews and wondered what it would be like to have a properly working humidifier. At this price I figured it was high time we found out. WHOA NELLY! This thing is silent as falling snow! I stand there and stare at it in disbelief that it's even on but the steady stream of "clouds" (what my daughter calls the mist) is pouring out nonstop to assure me it's indeed working like a charm. It does have a green light that glows a tad bright for our liking so I doubled up two bandaids and stuck them over the light to cover it -- voila -- dark as night. There seems to be some conflicting info on the size. The box says it's a two gallon tank. Whatever size it is -- I fill it around 9p.m. and it's still half full when it gets shut off around 9 a.m. after being set at full throttle/highest speed all night. You will not be disappointed with this sucker. My only complaint would be that the tank handle could be sturdier so you could actually carry it by the handle when full. That's small potatoes when you consider what I lived through with the Vicks beast and how well much this penguin shames that Vick's model.Bravo Crane.

Penguin: Cute, quiet and functional.
This is a quiet and an easy to use humidifier. I use Culligan FM-15A Level 3 Faucet Filter to fill up the water everyday. Although, I still have to buy vinegar to clean it, it's working great!!! The mist formation and emission is instantaneous. The moment you turn it on, cool mist is dispensed into the air. I was worried that since no hot/warm mist is dispensed, it might make me feel chilly or make the temperature of the apartment go down, but it do any of that. The mist is more helpful, invisible and a silent companion spread in the house than a continuous source of noise and uncomfortable cold air blower. There is a continuous (not discrete) control system knob that you can turn to get the desired level of mist-dispensing. The head of the penguin is loosely fit, so it falls off if I forget to remove it before tilting the upper body to fill with water. However, the head has it's own use, you can tilt it in any direction and the mist will flow out from that direction. Also the beak of the penguin that vents out the mist is titled upwards, so it makes sure that the mist is dispensed at an elevation. I have keep it on my wooden desk right in front of my face to add additional elevation and direct exposure, however, as the mist falls on the desk too, I am afraid that due to excessive mist, the wood may expand and loose it's shape. I live in a tiny 320 sq feet studio but the humidifier isn't quite upto the task to keep the whole unit humid. I find it much easier to work when it's right on my desk and then much easier to sleep when it's near my bed. Maybe because it's too dry in here in Pittsburgh and I have excessive dryness and allergy problems that no amount of drinking water or lathering up of hydrating/oily lotions help. There is always static electricity popping whenever I touch anything metallic! So, I will need to buy another one of these. I am excited about this, cz they are not very expensive and they look cute! In terms of cuteness of model design, penguin was over-hyped, so I didn't really find it that adorable. It's like a fat, unshapely, too much white and hard Bakelite (plastic that can't be remolded - like the switchboard-material) that looks more like a big dough-kneading machine than a cute penguin. Although, it's just a machine and I shouldn't really complain about aesthetic aspect, but I saw a video on y o u t u b e showing the elephant one, it looks so so so much cuter and adorable in person! Also, the elephant one has the snout/trunk up, so the mist will be dispensed up much higher up in the air, which is all the more desirable. I am definitely gonna buy that one soon! Overall, I think this is the best kind available for the humidifier in terms of its excellent design and value for money.

Outperforms Other Humidifiers - Exceeded My Expectations
In the winter the indoor humidity gets down to about 30-32% which can be quite shocking. I was looking for a humidifier that could put the most amount of water in the air in the shortest amount of time. I've tried many different humidifiers which promise high water output and have been nothing but disappointed. They're expensive and don't seem to output enough water ... enter the Crane Cute Animal Humidifier. Care Abouts : Hours/gallon - this was my #1 concern, how much water can it get into the air and how fast. Noise level - I wanted it to do so quietly. Cost - I wasn't looking for medical grade or payment plans, I wanted affordable/low cost. I bought this Crane humidifier on a whim. The marketing fluff showed it had high water output for its price compared to the other humidifiers I've tried, so why not? What's one more disappointment in a long line of disappointments, right? I was pleasantly surprised. Pros : High water output - On full blast the Elephant puts 1 gallon of water into the air in 12 hours. Best in class for sure. Cool mist, nearly silent operation - You can hear the faintest of fan noise from about a foot away, any further and it's silent. Cost - This has the lowest cost for the volume of water output I've found. Nebulizer - Instant mist as soon as you turn it on. Cons : The water tank has what looks to be a handle on it but isn't. It's very tempting to carry a full water tank by what's not a handle. After years of faithful service my Frog quit working, my fault, I didn't follow the cleaning instructions. Follow the instructions and use white vinegar and all will be fine. You can use tap water in the tank but I use the cheapest distilled water I can find. It lessens the amount of cleaning required. Would I buy this product again? After my Frog broke I bought 2 Elephants.

Some flaws
We like the humidifier, our kids love it, it's cute, it works great, but it has some flaws. The tank holds .9 gallons of water, which is kinda annoying when you buy a whole gallon of distilled water to use in it. It's not easy to fill. You have to turn the tank over to fill it, but there's no flat surface to set it down on since there's an unnecessary handle on top. This makes it hard to pour a gallon of water in to it. Lastly, it has a very bright green "on" light that distrupts sleep. That said, we still have 2 of these.

Silent and efficient
I love this little guy. I had one many years ago but lost it among moves across states. I recently got another one to help combat the winter dryness that makes my skin super itchy and my throat too dry. I have thermometers on the walls that also measure humidity so I can quantify how well it’s working with numbers in addition to feeling more comfortable. The tank has a little handle on top that makes carrying it easier, and the opening is wide enough to allow for a little plastic filter fish that I bought separately. I literally cannot hear it when it’s turned on, even at the highest setting. I can leave it on overnight and if it runs out of water it automatically stops and the light turns red to remind me to refill it. I’m sure other humidifiers are also effective but I gotta say I love this one for the shape and colors. It’s quirky and cute and makes something rather dull (look at me, I have to humidify my enclosure because I am basically a giant complicated houseplant) a bit more fun. I should also mention it works great for my 400 sq ft studio apartment with radiators (not forced air heating) so if you have a larger space and/or forced air you may need more than one. You might need a flock of adorable blue penguins. An army of adorable humidifiers, if you will.

Love
Bought this humidifier to use for my newborn daughter during winter since she has a Hello Kitty theme going on, it definitely came in clutch when it was cold and dry. It bumped it up from 20% humidity to 45% within a night (we bought a hydrometer/thermometer duo too). It's easy to fill and can run a few days straight when full. It's pretty easy to clean but you might want to consider getting one of those things to put in humidifiers so there's no mold. We didn't, but we used distilled water in it and cleaned it every couple weeks and it wasn't bad. Super cute like the photos too.

Completely satisfied
I purchased mine a couple of weeks ago and have had zero problems with it. I set it up, filled it with water, and plugged it in. Less than 10 seconds later, cool mist was coming out of it. Performance: I use mine in my master bedroom, which is quite large and has high ceilings. I constantly run it on high in order to get the results I want. The water reservoir lasts about a day on this setting. Noise: Even on high, it makes very little noise. Your air conditioner/furnace probably makes more noise when it's running. It periodically makes a short gurgling sound that was a little weird until I got used to it. I hear the gurgling sound maybe every 30 minutes. I'm not really sure about that because I've gotten used to it and don't really hear it anymore. I suspect you would hear it less frequently on a lower setting. Leakage: Absolutely none. The only problem occurs when you need to refill the reservoir and you take the decorative piece and the reservoir apart to do it. Condensation collects under the decorative piece and there are a few drips from the bottom of the reservoir. I take a washcloth/small towel with me to catch those and then hold it under the bottom of the reservoir as I carry it back and forth. Convenience: Not having to deal with a wick is wonderful. The only thing you have to do is refill it with water, dump the remaining water out of the bottom once a day, and rinse it out with a bit of white vinegar once a week. That's it. It's kind of a pain to have to unplug it to dump the water out and clean it, but that's a very minor thing. A bigger water reservoir might be nice, but it would also be a lot heavier after you filled it. This is probably the right size. The elephant was a bit of a whimsical choice on my part, but I love it.

So many design flaws
I honestly hate this humidifier, and here’s why: 1. Filling it is SUCH a pain. The fox head which is attached by nothing flies off. You have to take the tank part off carefully-the leftover water will be spilling everywhere and there’s no avoiding that-and then use both hands to keep it steady while filling it with water. The way the handle is placed makes it impossible to sit it down or even use one hand, so water gets all over when I need to pull it away from the stream. and it needs to be filled more than once a day (I keep it on a low mist setting) the other humidifier I have lets you just take the lid off for very convenient filling 2. You can’t use any essential oils in it? What? That’s one of the main perks with our other humidifier. I love putting Frida vapor drops when my boys are sick and the lavender ones for more of an every day use-and this humidifier warns against it all over the packaging, which makes it near useless to me. 3. The damn green light that indicates it being “on” is so bright that 8 layers of duct tape didn’t even block it out. I like my boys rooms to be super dark during sleep, and this annoying light shines so unbelievably bright. The red one is just as bright, but at least red light is ok for sleep. Still any device made to go in children’s rooms should have an off button for bright lights. The ONLY redeeming quality about this humidifier is the cute fox design, which goes with our woodland theme nursery, but this thing is trash I’m so confused by all the positive reviews. It’s much more expensive than our simple beautifully designed and convenient other humidifier that we have(DREO is the name also from Amazon), and i’ll be returning this one to purchase that same one to save myself the headache that this machine is. It’s a shame that this thing came with such bad design flaws because it really does go with my son‘s room so nicely

Leaks :(
It leaks water. There was a puddle in the floor every morning, which is unfortunate because it was perfect for the woodland decor in my sons room.
