No smell, lots of heat
I ran out of firewood, and I don't have central heat, so I'm using this until the weather warms up. I have a normal house, and I placed it on the floor in my living room; it has a vaulted ceiling and is about 15 x 30. The kitchen / dining room is around the corner, it is around 12 x 30 total. The weather is 40 degrees, and my living room is toasty. The kitchen is not as toasty, but it is no longer unbearably cold. Although it does not have the visual appeal (flames, etc) of the fireplace, this heats way better. It's pretty easy to assemble, although I am annoyed that they pack it in styrofoam. Here are the main points: - Read the instructions! There are some simple things that make this work perfectly, and if you don't read the manual then you will complain like others. For example, you have to let it sit for 1 hour after you add fuel, before first use. - Comes with wick installed, just some simple assembly, add kerosene, and light it up. - It is silent, no fan, no noise. - The bottom stays cold, so you can set it on any floor, even carpet. - There is only one setting - ON. You can not adjust the heat level. Make sure you buy the model that has the heat output you want. - There is no odor whatsoever. None. Nothing. Also no soot, no smoke, no CO (I do have CO detectors to be safe) . Again, follow the instructions and adjust the flame correctly; don't spill fuel when filling; make sure the wick is in good shape. You don't need Kleen Heat or any additives or any other weird modifications for it to be odorless. - You have to hold the ignitor against the wick for a good second or two to light it. Some complain of hard lighting, that is why. You can't simply do a "quick touch." If you don't want to use batteries, buy one of those long butane lighters, they work great for manual lighting. - Most of the heat comes from the top of the unit. And yes, you could probably fry bacon in a pan, although I wouldn't recommend it. Some heat comes off the sides, but not a ton. - It creates a moderately bright light, basically like a kerosene lamp. The light coming through the viewing window is pretty bright, I have to face it away when I'm watching TV. Makes a good night light. - The wick will last 2 -3 years if maintained properly. So it might be good to buy an extra, but you don't have to stock up. - Run time is as advertised. - You can carry it while it is on, sort of. You have to be careful though. I tried lighting it outdoors, and carrying it inside. Carefully. Later I realized I didn't need to do that because it just has no odor. About the operating cost - it costs about 1 dollar per hour to run, and the cost of fuel in my area is not the cheapest (good ol' California). Comparable electric would be over $2/hr. Natural gas would be $0.40/hr. Propane would be $1/hr. Compared to a month of firewood, it's about the same cost. So while it costs more than natural gas, it is not overly expensive to run, and propane is definitely not cheaper. Bottom line - great heater, and I might buy a smaller one as a backup.

Great value, rugged heater with excellent safety features.
I freakin' love my kerosene stove. It went together fairly easily out of the box, with basic handyman skills. It is well built and worked right away once put together and fueled. The directions are perhaps not the most clear but they are understandable. It seems pretty rugged and I like the automatic tip-over protection. I mounted it on some concrete pavers which absorb and reradiate the heat for hours. It does have two speeds -- off and cranked -- and when running gives off this gentle soothing warms-you-from-within heat. I was concerned about emissions; I have it indoors and bought CO detectors for my house -- and to date they have detected none whatsoever. If you are looking for an affordable off-the-grid heating solution, this item really fits the bill.

Very easy to use!
With not having central heating, I use different methods of heating different rooms. I have never used a kerosene heater before and because of the carbon monoxide issue, I was very reluctant. But, a kerosene heater is a great method of heating if you have an old, drafty house, like I do. It is a terrible choice for an airtight home. Because of an incoming winter storm, right before Christmas, I had no choice, but to get a kerosene heater, so my water pipes would not freeze. I did not need a bigger kerosene heater, as I was heating a much smaller room.I ordered this two days before the storm and it was not supposed to arrive, until the following week. However, I still ordered it. I couldn't believe it when I received this heater at 2pm, in the afternoon on the day of the storm, just two days, after ordering. The GHP group from Niles, IL, shipped this to me and the timing could not have been more perfect! I was not sure that I would be very good at assembling this. I started to take everything out of the box between 7-8pm that night and the instructions were perfect. The instruction book and diagrams were so easy to understand and this heater was so easy to assemble, so easy to pump in the kerosene. And, very easy to set the wick and to ignite. You have to follow the instructions to a tee and after you light, you have to stay with it for awhile to make sure the flame is just right. You do have to check on it but so far every time I have used it, the flame stays right where it should. You, also have to use the clean kerosene. This was the perfect kerosene heater to use for my very first time and the heat output is truly amazing. Definitely, a great heater to have; especially if and when there is a power outage or a storm coming up. I, also have a carbon monoxide detector in the room; it is a must when using a kerosene heater. I am just so happy and grateful that I bought this heater; the timing could not have been more perfect.

Indoor Kerosene Heater
I needed a new kerosene heater for emergencies. I did not want a big one, but one easy to carry by everyone. The tank is not wider than the unit like most heaters. My heater came without a manual. That is the only issue I have. It works exactly as stated on the box and as advertised. There is minor assembly required (attaching the handle and top grate) but it was easy for me to get it going. I added kerosene, waited for 40 minutes and it fired up. Batteries come with the unit for the igniter. You can also light it manually. I like the size and it is perfect for working in the garage or an emergency when the power goes out in the winter. There is a kerosene odor at first. The more you use it, the less the odor. The top grate is sturdy and can be used to warm up water. The shipping was fast and free. It is not made in the USA but the price and shipping work for me. Good luck.

A Great Emergency Heater
I was looking for a safe emergency back up heater in case my furnace goes out. This one says it's for up to 1000 sq ft. The area I used it in is at least that big. After filling it with kerosene and letting the dry wick soak for the recommended hour it fired right up. I turned off my furnace to see how well it worked. The temp at the opposite side of the house was up to 67 degrees with the help of a couple celling fans on low. In the room with the heater it was in the low 70s. I put in just1 gallon which ran it for about 4 hours. In my house It didn't need a window opened for ventilation like the forced air shop style heaters do. If you have a super air tight home you may want to consider that. It was cool to the touch near the floor so there isn't a risk of damage but I would make sure it's at least 3 or 4 feet from the wall. I put it on a metal drip pan that looks like a giant baking sheet that I bought at the auto parts store. It's big enough for both the heater and a fuel can so when your pumping kerosene into the tank it'll catch any spills. The heater has a shut off lever that can easily be used with your foot. One down side that I think is common with this type of heater is there is no adjustment for the heat or a thermostat. It's either on or off. If you have a smaller area than 1000 sq ft I'd get a smaller one. I'm very happy that now if my furnace breaks down or the electricity goes out I'll be nice and warm. My furnace struggles sometimes when it's very cold and windy out so I'll be using them both on those nights to keep the temp up around 70.

Cheap, Efficient, Massive Heat. Win!
We have now had this heater for about two years and have been so pleased. We purchase kerosene K1 from Wally-World for around 11.00. This thing sips fuel and is pretty much odorless. With a full 2 gallon tank, you will get an 8 hour burn but if you are using it in anything less than 1,000sq ft, you are going to have to turn this mini-sun off way before that. The ONLY area that is not rock solid on this equipment is the automatic battery lighter. It is useless. However, you can easily within second light it manually and safely. Over two-hundred is slightly pricey but for the cheap fuel cost, amount of time and absolute simplicity. It is a must for heating. Itโs just too handy to pass up.

Very Disappointed!
I purchased this heater less than a year ago. The first one I ordered came broken. I know it was used prior because When I opened the fuel cap I could smell kerosene. And there were no instructions. I know it comes with instructions because the second One shipped had them.also, all the parts this time were wrapped like a new product. This second unit worked very well last winter. However , this year when I pulled it out of the box I filled it with kerosene I let the wick sit for 24 hours. The following day when I went to use it the igniter would not work (yes I changed the batteries) I figured no big deal I lit it manually it heated up my garage well I went to use the shut off and its broke!!!! Okay... I will just turn the knob to shut it off. Now I just tried to use it today to work on a project in my garage and its DOA!!! I purchased this to replace my Colman heater it gave me 15 yrs of use before it decided to give me trouble! ,and its not like I used it very often! Very disappointed ๐

Garage Heater
I gave this heater 4 stars as its a quality product manufactured in the US. I'm sure this would work efficiently and heat a large interior insulated room. I purchased this to heat an uninsulated garage based on other reviews who said it worked well. Well it does not. My garage is 24x20 with a storage room above. The heater keeps you warm if you stand next to it but It does not heat the total space when the outside temp is below 0C. Wouldn't recommend this as a sole heat source in a uninsulated garage.
