Fantastic LED for you seedlings or a plant in veg.
This review is for the MarsHydro Reflector-Series Reflector 48 ReflectorReason for buyingI bought this to help out my chillies and tomatoes through the dark winter nights ;)I have been using a 105 watt T5, but I like LED units as there is less heat, more light and a better "bang for the buck".Previously, having used Platinum LED's for another project, I thought I'd give MarsHydro a shot, as the reviews are good and the prices are a lot less. This one is just for the germination and starting off the veg period of my chillies and tomatoes, hence the small model.Down to detailThe unit is well packaged and protected from transit damage with custom foam inserts and a thick cardboard box. The box is nothing special, and does not have any fancy graphics, colours or logo's.On opening the box, there is the light unit, a 1.5 meter cable, the included 4 hanging wires with clasps, a single carabineer for hanging with, and an instruction sheet. The light itself feels solid, though weighing in at a mere 2.5Kg. It is compact, and has dimensions of 63mm tall x 292mm wide x 264mm deep.4 brass hanging points are fitted on the top to attach the 4 supplied metal hanging wires, along with the power chord socket at top rear(if switches are at the LHS).There are separate "Veg and flower switches" located on the side, which can be on individually or together.(see attached photo's)The light unit is fitted with 1 x 4" fan at the top. It draws in air, blows across the heatsinks and drivers, then blows out the vented sides.I ran a test With a room temperature of 20.3 degrees. The max temperature I recorded with a non contact digital thermometer was: 27.3 degrees on the metal at the side vents. All other parts of the unit at various points were below this. The hottest part of the top never exceeded 26.4( measured on the metal casing next to the fan inlet). The noise level of the fan is actually quite quiet and you don't really notice it if fitted in a tent or other room. MarsHydro state 56 Db, but I don't have a sound meter to confirm this.Note: the fan runs in the veg or full veg/flower mode. It does NOT run in the flower only mode. This is normal. As I did notice that the single 4" fan would only run on the veg mode or with flower/veg modes both on. Curious, I e mailed MarsHyrdo and asked if this was normal. A very fast response(under 2 hours) came back stating that due to the low temperatures produced with the limited (17 of 48)red LED's on in flower mode, it was not necessary to have the fan running and was quite normal. I did pose the question "what was the normal running temperatures of the light, and they responded that around 40 degrees C was quite normal. So far I am very happy with this purchase, but will update this review in a few weeks once I have used it a while.Oh, and the plants seem to be having a field day. The are showing increases growth under the LED, and the LED is actually only mounted 10"(they suggest 18"-24") above them due to height limitations. No heat stress showing at all.Would I recommend to friends and family... yesWould I buy again ... yesThanks for reading, and I hope some information was useful. If it was, I'd appreciate a click on "yes" against "Was this review helpful to you" below.

Four Stars
far to slow at growing plants, takes ages for vegging, after using this light for 2 months i"ve got to say i had better results with a 200w dual spectrum cfl bulb, not worth the money. im going back to my 400w hps.

The light of my life
While i have yet to fully test these lights, i can already tell they are a quality piece of kit.Very well made, and i am glad i chose them, i had been doing a lot of reading up on what led's to get and these came highly recommended.I think i will need to get another of these to get the full benefit for the size of my tent, no big deal though as led's offer a great saving on power bills thanks to the lower demands for power.Bloom and Growth switches, save even more in the early stages, as it needs a little less light to begin with. The unit also runs cool even after having been on for extended periods of time, although it could be quieter, replacing the stock fan is easy enough, but i'm not sure about warranty if you do decide to replace the fan, as long as the replacement fan has similar specifications as the original fan in terms of CFM and air pressure it should be fine. All in all very happy with these, and to top it off, the customer service is second to none, should you have any questions.

No Brainer
Switched it on 2 days ago and can immediately see good results. Using the 'growth' setting which is really useful as with the low heat makes this much better for smaller grow spaces. Can position the lights close without burn. Quiet in operation. Very healthy growth with low stretch. There may be better LEDs at higher prices but it would take a long time to recoup the extra cost. All this at the cost of a 100w light bulb. These are the way to go. this is good for 0.5m2. Will definitely buy another. HID/HPSs, need replacing, need more watering, will concentrate salts in the grow medium (higher transpiration), have big heat problems and more expensive to run. Unless you have big spaces and are a commercial grower it's a no brainer.

Quality, quiet running with two light options
Great quality especially for the massively reduced price. Well made with two options for different lighting requirements and quiet fan cooling. Definitely recommended and a big improvement on the led bulbs I was previously using. Well worth the extra for the higher quality and power of light.
