Versatile and Dependable
A "dependable" pencil sharpener? Why not?!! I need a quality pencil sharpener that can dependably sharpen standard pencils AND colored pencils without causing breakage.I have used this model pencil sharpener for years and bought this one for my on-the-go kit. Never disappoints. To make things even nicer, it is designed to collect and contain the pencil shavings until there is a convenient time and place to empty the collection cells. My favorite sharpener.

Sharpens great!
Have been looking for a good pencil sharpener for my colored pencils. Regular sharpeners just don't sharpen them right. This has a special colored pencils slot as well as regular pencils slot. Highly recommend. Easy to empty. Very durable. Great design.

The Best Pencil Sharpener I Have - And Here's Why
I really, really like this pencil sharpener! Let me count the ways...Three sharpening holes, which accommodate multiple pencil diameters and styles. I have some colored pencils which are quite thick (the Derwent being the most notable) and which do not fit a standard sharpener whole. i hate having to buy multiple sharpeners, so it was very nice that this one can accommodate both diameters. Two sharpening styles for standard diameter pencils. With some colored pencils, I like the core to be long and thin -- those are usually the ones that are oil-based (i.e., a harder core). For others like the really soft cored colored pencils (think Prismacolor), I prefer to expose less of the core. This sharpener can handle both.Sharpens to a very point tip!Holds a fair amount of shavings before emptying, which I appreciate, especially when coloring on the sofa!I like this particular sharpener so much that I have three of them -- the original that I am still using after a year, and two for backups -- I am not taking a chance that they will quit making them!

Perfect little sharpener. Wish I could choose color.
Simple and straight forward. My only complaint is that you can’t choose, blue or red. I ordered one for myself and one for my friend in another city. She got red, I got blue. Everything in my dang office is red.I’m a writer and use Palomino Blackwing pencils to work out notes all day long, and all day long I sharpen with this sharpener. It does the job.

Best Sharpener for Soft Core and Hard Core Colored Pencils
I also have the Prismacolor and Steadtler sharpeners and I have to say that this Faber-Castel sharpener is the absolute best sharpener for all types of colored pencils. It sharpens your pencil to a Sharp point without sacrificing much of your pencil. The colored sharpener is in the top part when you open the sharpener which gives you a great angle for sharpening. This sharpener grips your pencil as you sharpen it. This gripping of the pencil keeps the leads from breaking and shapes it to a sharp point without any significant pencil loss.I have sharpened Prismacolor Soft Cores, Prismacolor Verithins, Steadtler colored pencils and Marco Raffine pencils and they all sharpened beautifully with this sharpener. The bottom compartment has a regular and jumbo slot for regular pencils.I bought this pencil sharpener because it is the sharpener Faber-Castel sells with their Polychromos. There are three colors: silver, red and blue and I received blue.

Purchased to sharpen hexagonal Faber-Castell colored pencils
One of my metallic Faber-Castell pencils needed sharpening, so I used my regular sharpener with less than stellar results - it shredded the wood. So I looked up sharpeners online and Faber-Castell has their own sharpener for these issues. At first I was annoyed because, of course, I'd have to buy a specific pencil sharpener by the manufacturer to sharpen them - they want to make more money, naturally! Then I found it on Amazon for only $4.99. Saw a couple of reviews saying the sharpener fell apart, but decided to get it anyway. I love the way this sharpener sharpens all pencils! Even if it were to break apart, having them in two separate pieces isn't a big deal to me. So far, it has held up for the week I've had it. :-)

The best manual sharpener I've used.
I have trouble sharpening certain brands of colored pencils (Prismacolor, Schpirer-Farben) b.c. of breakage, among other things. A small battery powered electric sharpener did a great job--for awhile. Although I also have a Prismacolor manual, this one I just bought is a-mazing. One short twist and you could do brain surgery with the end of the pencil, it's that sharp. Interestingly, this sharpens the Prismacolor pencils better than the Prismacolor sharpener does. hmmm Fortunately, I also have a set of Faber-Castell, but haven't tried this on that brand yet. (I'm saving them for old age. I'm only 70.)

a sharpener for all sizes and shapes
Finally a sharpener for all sizes and shapes! I had some pencils of unusual sizes and shapes that simply would not fit or sharpen in other sharpeners. This one has three slots and one always is the right size. I love that it collects that trimmings and is easily cleaned. Works for my Prismacolor Premiers, Verithins and Wahshui's as well as some no name dollar store stuff.Warning....if you lift one side of it, you get the sharpeners. If you lift the other side of it, you get the shavings. If you don't pay attention, you lift the wrong side and spill shavings everywhere.
