About 1 point 8 meters but it all depends on what you are fencing in, you can go wider if it's just a boundary fence but if you are keeping live stock bigger the animal shortest distance 1. 8 meters.

Is this suitable for horses?

It's quite strong stuff, the same as Welsh farmers use for sheep etc. I use it in conjunction with barbed wire for deer.
