The perfect book.
This book is perfect if you want to build a good turbine engine for an RC model or just to have it in a test rig.

Good book for building an engine.
This book takes you through the methodology behind designing a gas turbine engine. Using the FD 3/64 Model Jet Turbine as a base point throughout the book takes you through types of engine, common problems associated with certain parts, the necessary equations, engine characteristics and finally to the building of the FD 3/64 Model Jet Turbine. The author, Kurt, designed the engine specifically for at home construction using the most basic tools and materials possible. I am currently drawing and assembling the components in CAD before I make the engine. I feel this is necessary as some of the drawings in the book are not as detailed as I would like. Despite allot of written explanation, the assembly of the engine is not clear as many of the pictures are of poor black and white quality. There is however a FD3/64 Model Jet Engine Kit available for those who don't want to make the components.I found the book an interesting read with good insight into the design and construction of a gas turbine jet engine. New version needed with better quality pictures and more detailed drawings.

Hands down the most definitive resource on home-built micro turbo-jet engines!
Really I don't think a couple paragraphs could do it justice folks. Simply put, you won't find a better resource for designing and fabricating micro turbo-jet engines. Weather your a weekend warrior just getting the itch for something fast and dangerous, or a veteran mechanical engineer looking to prove a point, this book is full of the engineering principals, design drawings, equations, calculations, and practical advice you need to accidentally catch your house on fire.So break out the lathe and update your homeowner's policy and prepare yourself for an epic adventure with this amazing guide!

A good starting point
The book is very informative, and gives you step-by-step instructions to manufacture your own jet engine. The design is a bit outdated, and other materials on Amazon can help you create a more modern, better performing engine. The fact remains that this is a very good book to have on the shelf of anyone who may want to build their own jet engine at home, at least once.

Interesting reading if you are an R/C hobbyist.
I bought this because I am very interested in making an R/C turbine. I intended this for general reading, not as a how-to manual. I don't intend to try and manufacture a turbine disk using the methods in this book, as they are for sale commercially. I can see that a machinist with a mill and lathe could perform the operations in this book. I appreciate that Hr. Schreckling included notes on the manufacturing methods he used, and it helps me understand the time involved. Just as an aside, this is translated from German, and the translator seems to have done a very good job.
