First crab! But (at first) a couple kinks...
The first one I bought, I just had to use it & a lot of the kinks in the loops worked themselves out. I caught my first Dungeness with it! I bought more recently & they were much worse. I'm gonna try this (see pic) and get back to you. Hopefully it will help the loops stay open correctly!UPDATE: I left the snare on the wine bottles for 3 days & IT WORKED! :D So if you have an issue with kinks in your loops, get some fat Chardonnay or Pinot bottles, set the loops over them & leave it for a few days to re-train your snare loops, so they stay open.

P.O.S. Crab snares
First let me say they look great in the pictures & in the bag. They come packaged so neatly, so uniform & they appear as if they are kick ass snares...WRONG! Straight up CRAP. Once you remove them from the packaging & take off the foil twisty ties you quickly realize why they suck. The loops won’t lay open or will they lay uniformly in a manner conducive to snaring crab. That’s my 1st issue with these. My 2nd is the cheap ass plate weight inside them. They break off easily & become more of a nuisance than a benefit. About the only good thing about this snare is the cage. But all in all not worth the price or the hassle of trying to figure how you can modify them to get them to work as advertised!

Able to catch crab but snare needs to stay open
For the price I expected to be able to use it at least a few times. First out of the package the snare loops are well spread opened but once you toss it and catch and snare a crab it doesn't spread back open well. The cage is well design and simple enough to open to put in the baits. But the quality could be better because mine started getting banged up after few toss.It advertise it can be toss on rocks but becareful few times I almost lost mine after it got snagged.I like it has the weight already at the bottom of the little cage.Overall you can definately catch a crab or two after first few toss. My first catch was a spider crab.It needs better quality snare to stay open toss after toss. The cage need to be a little stronger so it doesn't get bang up so easily on rocks after 3 toss.

Loop snare doesn’t stay open
This snare isn’t very good because the loop snares are weak and not rigid enough to hold the loop open. A snare needs to stay open in order to trap a crabs leg. The bait cage, hook and weight is good. You could make your own snares for the bait cage but that’s too much work.I used this at the Pacifica pier for Dungeness crab. I couldn’t catch anything for 2 hours. I bought a snare from a local and started catching crab right away.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY
IT IS 100% A PIECE OF JUNK! I purchased it only because I was going out to fishing in two days and this is the only item shipping with amazon prime and would arrive the next day, and I extremely regretted this decision. First, the snare wires do not work properly, they tend to get tangled to a total mess. Second. the little cage is made of cheap and vulnerable material. I was fishing on the jetty on a peaceful day, and when I retrieved it for the second cast it bounced on the rock once which is not even that hard, AND IT FELL APART!!! A part of the cage came off!!! PLEASE JUST DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE.

Good traps
Finally got a chance to use them. They worked well in both sandy bottom and rocky bottom. Did notice that I will wind up replacing the loops soon on rocky bottom. I will replace with a weed eater .065 line.

Effective but poor quality
If you are casting on the beach for crab this is currently the only decent crab snare on amazon (1-22-20). All the others have coated wire/square bait cages and they create way too much drag in the surf. You won’t know if you have a crab on the line until it is dragging on the sand and you will have spent a lot more effort getting it there. Unfortunately the quality is pretty bad and they fall apart quickly. They arrive with lines smashed in the package and you will need to soak them in very hot water to regain the loop memory. The line is a little light and is subject to crimping with the tension of a crab or debris. You will spend a bit more time re-opening the loops before each cast but they work better than the heavier snares on the other amazon options. The best traps I’ve used have line thickness in between the 2 options on amazon. It also helps if they are different colors when you are untangling them. I used the 2 traps for 3 trips to the beach. About 3 hours each trip with about 4 casts per hour. Only about 40 casts each on the sand with no rocks. By that time I had caught 8 keepers but had also repaired them with zip ties as much as I could. They had to be retired. Definitely can’t recommend them based on durability.
