This material is 1/8 thick...Approximately what will it crush down to when between 2 steel plates ??

It depends entirely on the amount of force you have pressing down, and the surface area of gasket material used. When used as a gasket between two bolted surfaces, I would say that 20% compression is likely a safe bet. But if it is a very large area, then there won't be much compression. If it's only a narrow strip of gasket, then it may compress 50% or more.

Question 2

I have a pid controlled toaster oven that i use for tempering knives (450fmax). wold this material work for lining the door?

This material will work as long as it is sandwiched between 2x materials (like 2x pieces of metal). It is designed for gaskets and must be "clamped". Otherwise it will fall apart above ~300 degrees. Question 3

Can this be used to seal a GE oven light assembly to replace the wool that fell apart?  Want to make sure this will not give off any dangerous fumes

There wouldn't be any dangerous fumes, but there would be an organic starch that would burn - but there are better materials to use. You should use a Superwool Blanket product found here:

Question 4

Could i use this as an insulator for custom automotive applications? Like seat warmers?

Accepted Answer

This paper is used for high temperatures gaskets and is rated to 2100F.  You can cut it to any shape you like and use it in oil, gas and wood-fired boiler, furnaces, stoves, kilns, etc.  I can't imagine that seat warmers would not be in the realm of uses based upon those standards.
