Color Mixing for Artists: Minimum Colors for Maximum Effect, Using Watercolors, Acrylics, and Oils

I've purchased four different books to help with color mixing oil paints and this is my favorite. It gives multiple recipes to achieve the colors and tones needed for painting, is easy to read and understand, and also shows examples of colors in still lifes and actual paintings. I keep this close by for reference as I'm painting. It's a very useful book.

This little book is one of the best resources for color mixing I have seen. It is divided into different types of paints (ie: watercolor, oils, etc.) so everything is covered. I high recommend it.

Very useful for the hobby artist.Recipes for matching colors and applying color theory. Pictures of artworks show how colors react with other colors. Lots of inspirational ideas.

I use this book frequently to help make whatever color I want to use, when the color needs to be mixed. I know the basics of color mixing, but am not a pro at it, so need some help from time to time, and this book really helps. I can find the color I'm looking for, and it gives the proportions of how to make it. Couldn't be simpler.

As a relative beginning to painting, I found this book to be a helpful guide to color mixing. As with any sort of recipes, it is up to the artist to build on what one can learn from them.

I was loaned a copy of this book by my friend and mentor!.....I loved it so much that I went right to Amazon and hunted one down!! :@). The book is amazing for helping you understand and see how colors interact and it covers all mediums!It is a great help! It would be a marvelous addition to any painters collection!

I had hoped to find ideas and principles in teaching art to younger children. I like it for myself and would use some of the illustrations if the book wasn't sooooo.....small! The illustrations are great, but too small to use in the classroom, even up close with the students.The painting illustrations are wonderful to give the artist new ideas on what to create in paint for their next project!

I am using only the watercolour section so far. I fell in love with John Lidzey's style of painting and it is exciting to learn how he mixed the subtle hues both on the palate and paper. The book is clearly written and it is easy to copy and practise his mixtures.

Very good book, it helps me a lot for mixing the colours, it shows you what colour you get when you mix 2 colours in different proportion.
