Today's most complete handbook on book marketing. Review: Never Fails to Give me a New Idea - This was the first book marketing resource I came across, and it's a great one. I had worked in health care marketing but had no idea how to go about marketing a book. John Kremer's book gave me lots of specific strategies I could attach to my marketing goals. It also discusses marketing, and covers promotions, internet marketing, publicity, and more. Almost encyclopedic, it never fails me when I'm trying to think up a new marketing angle. There's so much in this book it can be overwhelming. It is a little dated, as it was written and updated before Facebook and Twitter became the powers that they are. But there are so many tips and suggestions that there is still much to be learned from this book. Some of the websites listed in the book no longer function, but as the author mentions, his website Bookmarket.com has updated information. I'm grateful to John Kremer for providing such an excellent resource. Review: Deal of the Century! - I already own the ebook version of the new edition. But I wanted a copy of the paperback-and this edition was priced just right. Some people have written critical reviews, saying the ideas were repetitive or weren't specifically for their genre of writing or some tips were for traditional publishers and not self-published authors. To them I'd say, the book is OVER 700 PAGES LONG! For the price you paid, you can't say you didn't get your $ worth of ideas that related to your specific circumstance. Boohoo if they had to read through a bunch of ideas that didn't relate to their specific situation. There are all kinds of people who write and sell books. And this is "one book to rule them all"! And, if they had any imagination, they could probably have used the off-topic idea and spin it to get value for their little niche! That's probably why nobody has heard of those reviewers' names and everybody has heard of John Kremer! The book wasn't designed to read cover-to-cover. This book is a classic that should be on every writer's shelf! Well worth the price. John Kremer is an experienced and generous genius. And I will use this book my whole writing and marketing life.

He's Not Kidding
1001 Ways to Market Your Books (1001 Ways to Market Your Books: For Authors and Publishers) This book was recommended to me by Dr. Carol Dunitz, playwright, lyricist, composer and lead of "Bernhardt on Broadway." I was disappointed that the book is not available for Kindle, however I was delighted when it arrived by mail. It's huge. There is a tremendous amount of information. The difficult part is culling through seven hundred pages of ideas. Using every idea in the book would probably take the rest of my life, so I've not read this one from start to finish. I'm using it as a reference. The table of contents is eleven pages in length. There is a little fluffy stuff in the beginning that I found unnecessary, but most of the book gets to the point. Although I believe there are a number of ideas that may be outdated, I also believe there are many more that make buying this book a good choice. I recommend this book for anyone who is marketing a book.

Misleading Title
When John Kremer decided to name his book, 1001 WAYS TO MARKET YOUR BOOKS, he sold himself short. If you only came away with 1001 ideas from this massive tome, I'd say you might want to go back and re-read it. This book is, by far, the best book I have found on book marketing. For a promoter or author to attempt to market a book without first researching how to go about it, would be insane, and that research should begin right here. There are many books available on this topic, but none so comprehensive as this one. Kremer's book goes far beyond the basics of giving you a few pointers on how to market your book. Let's face it, no matter how incredible your book might be, if no one ever reads it, your work is lost. This book will arm the writer with information on what they can do to insure their own success. Don't make the mistake so many authors make of leaving their success up to someone else. Here you'll learn not only about marketing your book, but how to construct a top notch publicity campaign, various ways to promote your book, the best way to advertise, gaining distribution, and even how to capitalize on your writing after your book is published. In short, if you are a writer or publisher, you HAVE TO HAVE this book. To attempt to market your book without it would be like running a race with cement shoes.

Book Marketing Bible, but many examples are now obsolete
First off, If a person writes a book, and wants to learn how market your book, this book is the Bible of book marketing. I gave it three stars for two reasons. First, this book desperately needs to be updated. If I had written this review five years ago, I probably would have given it five stars. But in the past five years there have been significant changes in the book publishing industry. For example, simply look at Amazon, a number of promotional efforts by Amazon have come and gone in the past five years. Thus, six years later, the book needs a thorough revision to make sure each of the marketing examples presented in the book is still feasible. Second, the book is seven hundred pages, but unfortunately with no subject index. Several times I found a great idea for marketing my book, but later when I went back to find the example, I grew frustrated trying to find the right page as I thumbed through 700 pages. If you are reading this book for tips/ideas on how to market your book, get some post-it-notes, and as you read it, and find a good idea, put a post-it-note on that page to keep track of the details for an idea for marketing your book. In conclusion, easily the best book marketing book I have read to date, but at this time it is a desperate need of good revision in order to maintain topical currency.

Even If You Know About Book Marketing This Classic Will Ensure You Don't Miss A Trick!
I had a copy of the previous edition of this book from many years ago. So when I was brainstorming about what I might be missing in the marketing efforts for my newest book, I decided it would be worth investing in the latest edition. I wasn't disappointed. While I know quite a bit about marketing from my work in the corporate world and my own entrepreneurial efforts, I was surprised at how many classic ideas I had overlooked in my latest campaign once I re-read "1001 Ways To Market Your Books." To me, that's the biggest strength of this book--to make sure you've left no marketing stone unturned in promoting your book. And by doing so, you're bound to get your own marketing creativity going and think of additional things you can do, and ways to adapt the material to your own needs. There are only two weakness of the book: 1. There is still a sizable portion of the book that is more geared to being a book publisher vs. an author. It might make sense to have an edition of the book for authors only. However, there is such a wealth of information that is applicable to an author, it's a minor inconvenience. 2. Since marketing is changing so fast, even this latest edition doesn't cover today's essential book marketing techniques like social media and new media. I guess that'll be in John's seventh edition :)

A Fantastically Informative and Valuable Resource
I found John Kremer's "1001 Ways To Market Your Books" to be incredibly informative and an easy read. There was a ton of information and chapters in the book that related to both Book Publishers and Authors for both beginners and experienced professionals. The best part about the book for me was that it allowed me to organize my reading so that I could concentrate on the chapters that related to me and my experience level and goals. It was also incredibly easy to read and I did not feel like a fish out of water when reading it because it is written in layman's terms so that everyone can understand it and follow along without being overwhelmed at all!! It also has a ton valuable resources that have been very useful to my campaign!! I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in marketing and publishing their own books!!!! IT'S AWESOME!!!! This book is like the Holy Grail of marketing and self promoting and I dont know what I ever would have done without it! When I bought this book it had on the front cover 'buy this book, sell more books' and i thought yeah right another sale gimmick, but I assure you , it is not! Ive still got a few more chapters to go in this book, but the money it has bought in so far has been nothing short of miraculous..i thought i had to share the good news.. this book will NOT disappoint...it covers everything you will ever need to know and more... im SO glad I got a copy!

Formatting makes it very difficult to read!
I dont know whether it is just on the Kindle version, but this book is very difficult to read because of the formatting. Whole words are broken up into two or three sections. I really need to know the contents and will persevere with it. I am very surprised that someone as knowledgeable as this about marketing books, has allowed this situation!

Not Quite What I Expected....
There are plenty of rave reviews for this book & it has been published in several editions so I just wanted to offer a few words on this volume. Firstly, it is a chunky, text-book like block & sure it is full of tips & ideas. Some great, some which I think are inappropriate. For example, in one, it mentions an author who goes into bookshops & places his books in the stores without the owner's knowledge. I can think of nothing more irritating for bookshop managers. In other cases, the tips are designed for people with $750,000 marketing budgets. Sure there are cheaper tips in there but the dollar sign should also give you a clue that this is squarely focused on the US market. Many tips crossover but many don't & this makes it of far less value outside the US. I think this is one of those books that has got wrapped up in its own success, for example, the author explains the logic of having sponsors, who are liberally scattered throughout the volume advertising various services for what is quite meagre input in some cases but I'm not convinced - one can't help feeling this is I think an inappropriate way to create an additional revenue stream from something I have already paid for. So, all in all, not quite what I expected. As a first-time author, I expected a companion to help me through the murky work of book marketing what I got was a mix of anecdotes, stories & poorly presented adverts amongst a nest of ideas & tips - some good, some crazy for the sake of it & some you could learn from the web after a quick search.
