why are the chocolate chip $10 more than the others?

My guess is that they taste better. The chocolate chocolate chip are a little overboard on the dark chocolate (I never thought I'd say that about chocolate cookies,) enough so that you can't always taste the chocolate chips - or maybe I just like my chocolate with a little vanilla . . . also the vendor might be different.

What is the shelf life?

There should be an out-date on the container. I actually haven't bothered to look at my boxes, mine don't usually stay around long enough for me to worry about shelf life.
