The mower is built fairly strong. Should give years of service, but all that depends on usage, proper maintenance ( check gear lube) and lube zerts. Also proper mowing habits. ---Ed

Will it work on a John Deere 4100 tractor?

No, it will not. You need 20 HP at the PTO to operate this unit. The FH-EF105 is a better fit for that tractor.
