The new Bark River Wilderness Explorer is our version of the famous Loveless wilderness knife. This large knife is designed as belt knife for wilderness trekking and hunting in the back country. The blade is configured with good amount of straight edge for camp chores and plenty of forward cutting curve for slicing and skinning. With very low distal taper, this knife is great for cutting cartilage around joints to make it easier to separate an animal for packing it out. The knife balances on the first finger in use. In this model, we have the powerful and incredibly durable CPM Cru-Wear tool steel made by Crucible. It has tremendous wear resistance and excellent all over toughness. Overall Length: 10.775"/27.37 cm. Blade Length: 5.775"/14.67 cm. Blade Height: 1.25"/3.18 cm. Blade Steel: CPM Cru-Wear. Steel Thickness: .160"/4.06 mm. Weight: 9.5 oz. Hardness: 59-60RC.

Delicate tip for a wilderness blade
Tip is fine and delicate, especially for a knife touted by the manufacturer as a “wilderness” explorer. Ergonomics are very good in handle. Convex grind is well done. Grinds are not symmetrical in distal taper. Plunge lines are uneven. Tool marks present on gaurd, pins are visible, do not appear to have been seated with a thermal interference fit. Micarta under guard is not well finished with some pinched slivers being present. Concerned this is a wilderness class knife with a delicate tip.
