Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Tall Fescue Mix, Grows Deep Roots for a Durable, Livable Lawn, 3 lbs.

I live in zone 6b in the mountains of NC. We have clay soil and it gets hard as a rock so I added some top soil and compost to the area before planting. 3 weeks in and it’s filling in quite nicely. This took about a third of the 5lb bag and I spread over some other hilly areas without the added top soil. It’s also starting to pop up in the other areas but not as well. It’s been in the 90 degree range here over the last few days and as long as I keep it watered several times a day it’s still thriving.

My son planted the seeds and for the most part, it rained so much for the next couple of weeks that he did not have to water the grass. It's definitely growing' green grass.

I got to say this grass seed is not going to give you everything you would expect from Scott's. For me and my hard work I put into prepping the area to grow this grass, not to mention money spent and time. I can be somewhat pleased because, I do have green grass in a area where there was once dirt. The quality is ok and best to buy on sale. The color is a nice green and I think with some more maturity it will work well. It took 2 weeks to start growing with starter fertilizer and gets watered everyday. However there were some patchy spots where the seeds did not grow. So I had to overseed and pull some weeds up by hand. That was just the back yard. The front yard has taken a different turn. It didn't work as well. The growth has been slow to nothing. I used the same methods same seeds, and don't know what happen. I'm sure I will get it figured out.

Application of the seed to increase a thicker and greener lawn worked well. Very happy with the results. Easy to apply using Scott spreader. Good value for the cost.

Seems this not suit for Houston, growing not very good

The pictures tell it all, or nearly so. It also smelled terrible, very bad of ammonia. Don’t like not knowing what chemicals I’m actually putting on my lawn. Took me 5 times longer to apply. Had to run it through a sieve, and use gloves to try to separate it. Some was like rubber (pic), very strange, and had to be discarded, Should have paid more attention, too. “Coated” seed, so only about 1/2 the weight is actually seed. Coated seeds are apparently notorious for short shelf life. I guess this is ok if you are only doing a small area, and don’t want to worry much about fertilizing and watering. Much cheaper to buy seed and fertilizer separate. I have timed irrigation, so watering every 6 hrs, for 3-4 min is also not a problem. I’ll never buy Scott’s seed again, or any coated seed. I do love my Scott’s battery powered sprayer and clippers. I have a rare neuromuscular disease, and those work great. This is also the reason I got so frustrated with this seed. I have an extremely limited amount of energy, and this seed just wore me out.The upside: 100% money back guarantee from Scott’s, fast, as soon as they got the pictures.

Great for filling in, we had raccoons mess up the yard digging for grubs

Big bag, good price for seeds. Quick to grow, yard is fully grown in now.
