Two decades of New York's subway trains and surroundings presented in large full-color images. See 1970s and 1980s New York through the attitude and reputation of its transportation system. While it wasn't the cleanest system, it had the most color and attracted people from all over the world. Tod Lange, artist and subway archivist, presents more than 150 images of his favorite train lines, graffiti painted cars, stations, subway yards, and work equipment that defined one of New York's bygone eras. It may have been a scary and dangerous place to some but it was home to millions. Rail fans and those hankering for a memento of this period in New York City's history will appreciate this rare look at trains that have since been turned into scrap metal or sunk to the bottom of the ocean. Review: Amazing beyond words - If you have memories of riding the NYC Subway during the 70s and 80s, know people who have memories of such, or simply find it to be a fascinating thing, then prepare to be amazed. The phrase "a picture is worth a thousand words" applies to each photo of the Subway from its more difficult times--preserved for readers like us to see. I made it a thing to take my time to read through this one as I wanted to enjoy each section on its own--the 70s, the 80s, stations, rail yards, and retired rolling stock sadly going off to be stripped for scrapping. This book is a feast for the eyes for railfans and people who remember those days alike. Review: Pleased - My adult grandson is a train buff and he loved it

Great photography
I like this book because it reminded me of growing up in NYC watching the subway trains. The pics were from the 70s and 80s so it was right in my timeframe. Also, some pics of slant R-40s and of course, the beloved R-1/9s. Great book.

AMAZING BOOK!
A VERY INTERESTING LOOK AT THE NYC SUBWAY SYSTEM. I ENJOYED THE GREAT PHOTOGRAPHY. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A BOOK LIKE IT, PAGE AFTER PAGE OF AMAZING SHOTS. THIS BOOK WAS A DOSE OF HISTORICAL REALITY. IT REALLY TOOK ME BACK TO THE OLD NEW YORK. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BOOK.

OK collection of hard-to-find photos
A good single-source of old subway photos. What prevents this book from being more than just OK is that many of the photos do not include useful captions. Many of the place locations are not identified.

Excellent
As i worked on the New York subways i find all books about it good. I would suggest that anyone who rids the system read it.

Excellent Book
A great book of excellent pictures of the New York Subways and New York itself. The pictures of the trains/stations with all their graffiti bought back memories of travelling on the subway at the time. A good insight into the changing face of the city and it's subway

New York Subways & Stations: 1970-1990
Hallo!
