doesnt matter which candle you use, glass requires cleaning after every use,wax builds up inside the lantern only good thing is the look..

Could this item be engraved with a Personel message?

Yes, I had mine engraved, and it wasn't even in English.

Can I have this without the cross on the top

There is a screw underneath the cross and I believe you can take the cross out. The crew at the one I bought is a bit rusty now as it stayed in the rain outside so I cannot take it out but it wasn't like the when it first came. To be certain I would ask the manufacturer.
