Design Works Crafts Counted Cross Stitch Kit 6 Ornaments - Little Bears

I make a new ornament for each of my grandchildren every year for Christmas so am always looking for new patterns to stitch. Not "square or block" looking, this leaves a nice graduated edge, making it look more realistic.

These were cute and fun to do but as I have noticed frequently with this brand they don’t supply enough thread to finish the project. I am very frugal with my thread use but only had enough of one of the browns to do 3 bears. Had to come up with a close substitute (couldn’t find the exact color) to finish the other three. Also as per usual with this company don’t expect the colors you are given to match the pictures. As you can see in my picture, my reds were nowhere near the colors shown on the kit. I finished these by backing with sticky felt and homemade twisted cording for the hangers, neither of which was included in the kit.

I have made several Design Works kits because I love their designs. Two things to be aware of: 1) the graphs are often difficult to read: very similar icons and all one color. Can be remedied by using a highlighter to differentiate colors. 2) guarantee that you will run out of at least one thread color. There was only enough of the gray outline thread to do half the picture. They will send you more, but it’s a hassle to wait.

There are several symbols in the patterns but no corresponding symbol in the thread key. Very very frustrating. I also wish there was a DMC color key. The thread used in this seems thin.

I've done a number of cross stitch patterns, and this one is probably the worst. The instructions are vague and they don't tell you how many strands of each color you're supposed to have. I tried emailing the company, and they didn't answer my question. Very disappointed.

Next years ornaments in my family

Don’t bother with this kit. Hard to follow instructions (color symbols don’t match the floss numbers). Scale of guide doesn’t match the plastic backing. Only one needle, and floss is too thick to pull through the eye of needle without great difficulty. Holes on the plastic backing are too small to pull through needle/floss without great difficulty. Horrible kit.

I love this pattern. Only thing is the way they send the thread. I was missing some thread and was quite sure which one it was. I like it when they put it on a card that divides the thread up by number
