So i bought this, the $20 version of the $2 poncho. a poncho for me is a poncho regardless of price, and why i recommend the $2 version of this over this version. Same heat, same poncho exposed lower waist (we all know any wind and the poncho goes in Monroe Dress Mode and flairs around) and all the flaws of a poncho in heat and wind. The additional use of this poncho as a tarp is cute, but for anyone going back country you will want a full tarp of better material (not to mention if this is your tent then whats your rain gear?) unless you are going minimalist gear -- this isnt the main replacement for your main tarp needs, its just another use of the poncho. zipper also bonus feature. So admitting personal dislike of all ponchos as a main rain gear, i recommend this if you get the cheap poncho because they have the exact same payload of rain protection. This $20 poncho doesnt help you better fight the rain than the $2 version, it just comes with more features. Case in point for me is when fishing in a canoe this is actually too big and heavy, and i want that cheap $2 poncho in its little pack (an advantage of the cheap ponchos is they fold into nothing), this thing is rather big considering the ripstop material PVC. so for fishing trips i leave this in the car, and take the lighter easy to not care about $2 clear poncho. if for some reason i know i have to spend a day in the rain i am going for a rain suit to cover my legs -- when sitting in the canoe the poncho makes for that tent thing which every time you cast becomes a distraction in my humble opinion. get a $150 rain suit, and a $2 poncho plus the umbrella and your good to go! i do recommend this product for those wanting a better poncho, i just find over use any poncho leaves you lacking... ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Great poncho, decent tarp *by H***D on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on March 29, 2017* I bought this to replace a cheap 99 cent emergency poncho. It is heavier and bulkier than the disposable ones but also substantially more durable. I am 5'5" and it goes to my knees. With a pack it should be perfect. My 4'10 inch 11 year old also tried it on and it even fit her down to her calfs but still usable. I accepted the trade off in weight and space because I want this to double as a tarp/tent if necessary. In the pictures you see two ponchos snapped together and then strung up with a rope and staked out. In that configuration it would be big enough to fit four people snugly--maybe less if it was all adults with packs. The snaps are not sufficient to keep the water out so I added a few binder clips and that did the trick. Also, the grommets on the end of the poncho (the weakest point of any tarp) will pull apart if you try to stake it out with a lot of tension. I have reinforced all the grommets with duck tape to guard against grommet failure--of course if they do fail you can wrap a rock around the end and tie it down. The weakness in the grommets is why I deducted a star. I could see using this poncho on a regular basis, I would only use the tarp function in an emergency as it likely wouldn't last for an extended period of time for that function. Unfortunately a real heavy-duty tarp adds a lot of weight and bulk so really this is the compromise. ### ⭐⭐⭐ 3.0 out of 5 stars I used this in the Rain forest for 5 months *by E***C on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 19, 2019* This was really a life saver in the jungle and it worked very well for a couple of months solidly, but after that the water would make itsway inside throughthe neck, I would get wet but it still halped me stay warm. It would pour in the jungle like i was standing under a rain gutter. I expected it to go that way. But when I was down there I got my girlfriend a rubber one and it was like 20$ and wow, that thing was 100% and so I realized that this one was ok and very light. Her rubber one was heavy and I would not be able to take it everywhere so lightly. If you want waterproof then get a rubber one. This is great to cover the backpack and keep regular rain off. But hard rain, no way, no way will it protect the back pack. It was just used to run from one place to another. It kept me dry during hikes when the leaves were dripping after rainfall, but it did not feel totaly protective. It was super light to take with me.
