Good outdoor thermometer and good lcd, questionable outdoor wind speed.
I bike to work on days that isn't too cold nor rainy. So I wanted a device next to my bed when I wake up and quickly check the temp and weather condition. I was going to get the simple device with just the outdoor thermometer. Well this on eis on sale for the same price and had a wind measuring device so that was better. ALso this model has a better screen then the simplier one. Goods: + great for the price I got it at. Also I got another one as a Christmas present. + seem to be well built well, even the wind outdoor therometer was built pretty good. + setup was easy and it sync instantly. I have mine on the 3rd floor and it is outside in my back yard so the range is fine. + outdoor temp is on pair with accurate weather website I checked the city I live in, exact number. Indoor I think it might be 2 degrees higher compared to my house thermometer. + screen looks nice, but it is just led on a color background that doesn't change. + good dimming mode. It dim the led brightness per the time range (you can read the manual for that). It doens't have a light sensor, which I thought per term auto dim, but I did read the manual and it is time range). Issues: - Outdoor wind speed is very low if you place it low to the ground. You need to place it as high as you can. - led viewing angle, you need to be above it to see it. My is placed above me when I sleep so I can't read it when laying down. pending: currently it is still learning (they say 14 days), but I see it is producing some graphic of what is happening. I will see how accurate this gets. Overall for the price it is a great product. The wind speed is low as I don't have a higher mount to place it on. Also I didn't install the backup battery, don't care if it lose data of last month. But you do need 4 AA batteries for the wind outdoor thermometer.

Easy to read and set up
Bought this as a replacement for an older unit that was in our winter home when we bought it. I like the color display, very easy to read. We bought the black with silver trim. Set up was fast and easy. The only thing that is not correct on this is the weather in the bottom middle panel. Since this is in our Arizona winter home and humidity is low and temps are hotter, I think it may confuse the unit as to what it is really doing outside some days. I like the wind speed indicator. It shows wind speeds and gusts and records them for the last 30 minutes showing the strongest wind speed. We have this sitting on our end table with the included stand in the living room and the bright display is always just a peek away. Large easy to read numbers, which is great for us. High-precision 3-in-1 wireless weather sensor accurately measures the temperature, humidity and wind speed Daily, monthly and all-time high and low records, History chart displays temperature, wind speed and barometric pressure trends over last 12 hours Illuminated color display with adjustable dimmer; electric-powered with optional battery backup.Easy setup and mounting. We are very pleased with the ease of set up, just wish the weather indicator was accurate all the time, hence the 4 star review.

Works Great..! If You Don't Play With It.
This is a nice unit and I am very happy with it. I followed the instructions exactly, and mounted it on the side of my house about 12 feet in the air. I was receiving some interference for the first week and was receiving inaccurate readings, and I was also playing with the unit controls for the first week. I changed the base unit and the outdoor unit to channel C and reset both of them to factory defaults, and did not play with or touch any of the base unit controls. It's now been about two months since I purchased it and the accuracy is within one degree two other instruments that I checked it with. The weather forecast function really does work accurately,...!! The little picture icons in the weather forecaster are really cool and give you a good idea of what to expect in the next 12 to 24 hours, But not till after the 33 days it requires to take all four thousand readings. If you set it up correctly and don't play with it it will give you accurate and reliable information and forecasting.

Used it for 9 years... finally died.
This works great... Bought it 5 years ago and still no problems. I run the main unit on the DC power plug. The sensor is on top of a pergola and I put lithium batteries in it and *still* haven't had to change them... been running on the same batteries for 5 years. The only thing that doesn't seem super accurate is the wind speed. It measures about half of what it really is, but, it could be because It's not super high in the air. Updated 2024: It finally died. 9 years of reliable service. I bought this for about $80 nine years ago, so it was well worth the money for what I ended up getting. In the 9 years I never had to change the batteries once on the outside unit. The energizer lithium batteries I originally bought lasted all this time. Unfortunately, I am going to get a different unit now. I have no idea why they basically doubled the price since I first bought it. I get it: the economy, but there are no new features. Better options out there for cheaper.

Absolute waste of money!
If I could give it zero stars, I would. This was the second one of these we purchased because the first one stopped working. Should have known better... it wasn't a fluke. Love the features that it's supposed to offer, but they don't work. The temperature rarely moves, and the wind speed is never accurate. We tried all of the instructions, including resetting it and changing the batteries. Total waste of money!

What You Might Need To Know
I've been using AcuRite products for years, mostly because their products are specifically designed for a range of Home Use consumers from small temp/weather related applications to the dedicated weather enthusiast, and their products are usually relatively inexpensive while still maintaining reasonable quality at the same time. However, due to the overall nature of inexpensive electronics and automated assembly, it's impossible not to have a lemon or glitch in the works somewhere. I could talk about how great this personal weather station is supposed to be, but why repeat what you've already heard before? Let's skip that part. Things you should know about the AcuRite 00589 Pro Color Weather Station: 1. The display screen sort of behaves like a privacy screen. The data is only bold and clear when viewing the display dead on at eye level. The data fades away when viewing it at angles. So keep that in mind while figuring out where to place the display. 2. The display can be wall mounted, but not flush mounted. Due to the bulging battery compartment, you must allow some space from the wall so the screen can hang parallel with the wall. There should be a sheetrock/panel insert and a longer screw included in the packaging so you can do this properly. - In addition to the wall mounting option, be sure not to mount the display over any power lines. Here's a good clue ... if a light switch is directly below where you're trying to mount it, then you're mounting it in the wrong place. Move over at least 6 - 12 inches. Not only will this reduce EM interference and improve sensor connectivity, but also avoid the chance of electrical shock and/or fire. 3. If you want to view the data at all times, then the backlight must remain on at all times. The wall power adapter enables the 'always on' feature automatically, but the default is 100% brightness. I actually find it a bit too bright, so I turn it down 1 notch to medium. There's also an auto-dim feature, but you probably won't like it, I know I don't, because that feature only uses Low & High, and I want Medium most of the time. 4. There's a slight conflict of interest concerning the outdoor sensor. The consumer must choose which is more important personally ... Wind or Humidity-Temp. --- a) If it's Upper Wind, then choose a nice big open area with a 50 yard clearing radius, mounted on 10 - 12 feet of pole. The sensor needs to be at least 2 feet higher than your house, if you don't have that kind of clearance. However, temp and humidity is not going to be accurate with this setup. --- b) If Lower Wind is satisfactory, then a mount point on the farthest corner of a deck at least 6 feet from a wall and 5 feet off the ground is sufficient. However, the temperature is not going to be accurate in direct sunlight. --- c) If Humidity-Temp is all you're really concerned about, then mount in an always shady area at least 6 feet from obstacles and 6 feet from the ground. However, you can forget the wind entirely. Don't even bother looking at the wind reading except for fun. 5. With #4 above in mind, you should realize it actually takes independent sensors to get the job done properly. With the way most people mount these 3-in-1 stations, the Wind sensor is just there for fun. Ideally you really want the Wind Sensor separate from the Humidity-Temp sensor out in wide open area, but if you want to take things that far, then you might as well cough up the money for expert professional instruments and become a REAL weather station, right? Glitches: So far I've only experienced 1 glitch. It's correctable, but I don't know yet if the glitch is going to repeat. After first-time power up and mounting, everything seemed to be fine. Over a period of 3 days the Temperature became inaccurate and slowly kept increasing to nearly 22 degrees higher than what the temp is supposed to be (I have other instruments to verify). I decided to do a hard reset of the display (just the display, never touched the sensor, never touched the channel switch) and the reset seems to have corrected the issue so far. If it happens again, then I'll let it be known.

Works as good as all ACU RITE units I've owned.
Great unit. Replaced old unit damaged during ice storm. Now I have 2 displays, one for sunroom and one for living room. My only complaint is there is no humidex reading. There is a reading showing the wind chill factor (outdoor temp 30C and humidity at 75% and wind chill reads 30C). Not sure if that is right, old display shows 36 degrees humidex.

Works well and colourful
This is a great weather station. Like the memory function so you can review the months weather and the all time stats. It’s nice and has colourful display that makes it easy to read all the relevant wether I go inside and out. The wind meter is worth the effort as it will give you wind chill effect which is very helpful in winter like climates, such as mine. Would be nice to have wind direction but not really necessary as it tends to swirl around in urban environments anyway. Make sure you get good lithium batteries for the outdoor sensor so they don’t freeze is really cold temperatures. Overall I’m very happy with this product. Good purchase!

Such a poor ‘out of the box’ impression!
This unit will make a great ornament for your bookshelf, and additionally it will give you some data, and if that is what you want, then it also looks good with its bright colours and changing graph and scrolling figures. But my conclusion so far is that this appears to be a toy rather than a serious instrument. Let me explain. When I got this I first set up the main unit, and it was a sequence of disappointments. I powered up the unit with both batteries and mains power and immediately realised that the screen has to be viewed exactly square on; if it is viewed from any angle the data starts to disappear (see photos of comparison of straight on view and viewing from a slight angle). To illustrate how quickly the figures start to disappear, the screen sits on a shelf by my desk with my eyes at the same height as the unit, but because it sits slightly leaning back in its stand, then the figures go dim. While the numerics are still readable, the pictures of the weather are not. And having spent a three-figure sum for a unit from a company who are meant to be a leader in this technology, do I want to be looking at something that looks like the batteries are about to give out? After this poor start the other minor disappointments seemed to stand out more. The date can only be coded according to the American standard of month/day/year rather than the more logical day/month/year - this will really annoy me over time! What is particularly valuable to me is weather history. Basically, when I get up in the morning I want to know did it freeze over night? Or, how strong was the wind in that storm last night? But one has to work to find these figures. One has to press the “Select” button and scrolls through the ten options until one gets to the outside maximum and minimum temperatures, the station then cycles through seven different pieces of data; namely the maximum and minimum outside temperature since the unit was initiated (meaningless - see below), then the max and min for the last month (little interest) - then an odd figure about the difference in temperature today and yesterday - and then finally the figure one wants to see, the data for the last twenty four hours. Miss this figure and one has to wait for it to scroll through all that other stuff again. Next, to see the overnight maximum wind speed figure one has to again press the “Select” button to sequentially scroll through that ten item menu to call up the wind speed, and when one has selected this option one has to again go through this sequence of older historical data before getting to what one wants to see. Why are the displays not programmable? Yes, this unit has the information I want and it can display it, but it is not exactly easy to find. With such a big screen and so much data presented, it is a shame that one can’t have the information that will actually be of interest. I get the impression that although the screen is bright and colourful — so gives the impression of being really modern — actually the processor that drives this unit is either old or really simple, certainly it seems unable to deal with even the slightest programming request like the format of the date or what data is displayed. I think the brevity of the instructions that come with it testify to this. So next I set up the outdoor unit. Of course, I did this inside the house, this meant that as soon as the outdoor unit connected to the indoor unit, the figure for the temperature was recorded and will now be the ‘high’ not only for the next ‘24 hours’, but also for the next ‘Month’ and indeed, until we get a heatwave, it will be the figure it displays as the ‘All Time’ high outdoor figure. Not good. There doesn’t seem to be a way to reset this history unless one powers down the main unit by removing the batteries and disconnecting it from the mains, and starting the whole setup process all over again. When I put the outside unit outside obviously the temperature dropped and the humidity rose; except the ‘trend’ arrows on the main unit that displayed this data stayed straight, indicating that nothing was changing. Note to self: don’t trust the trend arrows as they don’t seem to be accurate. Indeed I think accuracy is going to be an issue. When both the outdoor and indoor units were powered up and sitting on my desk side by side they showed the same temperature but a 10% difference in humidity. Interestingly, when the humidity went down by 1% on one unit the same happened on the other unit, so clearly they were working and measuring the humidity, but coming to different conclusions. Then the “history graph” is pretty, but sadly not accurate. For the last few hours the temperature outside has not risen above 5ºC and is pretty steady at 4ºC, and I have not handled the unit so that the temperature reading on it might have risen above this figure, but the history graph is showing an average for the last hour of between 10ºC and 15ºC - so don’t read the graph for an accurate reading of what has happened, just observe the trend. But having said that, the trend appears only to change if the temperature moves more than 5ºC - not that useful. So, for example, if it was 5ºC and an hour later it had gone down to 1ºC, the graph will tell you that the temperature is steady rather than warning you that the temperature is falling significantly so it might get icy very soon. (And don’t forget, those ‘trend arrows’ don’t seem to be that accurate either.) So extracting history is not exactly easy, and predictions for the future are unreliable, thus the single star as a “weather station”. I had always suspected that these units wouldn’t be that accurate, and really what I wanted was to see trends in the data rather than one hundred percent precise readings, but even with this low expectation I still feel disappointed, but the unit will look very pretty on your bookshelf.
