I have been looking for a good set of curtain rods for my blackout curtains for quite some time. These Amazon Basic curtain rods have been perfect for my bedroom. The rods have a great design and finish that goes with just about any decor. The nickel finish perfectly complements my 1915-era windows. Installation tips: Installation was a bit challenging at first, but I was quickly able to get them up. You might want to have a helping hand with you during installation because it makes it easier to ensure your rod is leveled perfectly. I found it was easiest to assemble the curtain rod and hold it up to where you are planning to mount the rod. Once everything is level and in order, I used a pencil to mark the holes. This all sounds simple, but this is where it got difficult for me. The directions say that you can use a 1/4" drill bit to drill a hole for the drywall anchors, however I was drilling into solid wood and didn't need the anchors. The way the mounting brackets are designed makes it completely impossible to fit a power drill close to the screw holes. I was able to drive in the screws one-third of the way before the bracket blocked my drill and the screws started to strip. If you use a lot of force the screw heads start to strip easily. I found out that if you're planning on screwing into solid wood without the anchors you need to drill a 9/64" hole (or similar) and the screw will easily go in to your wood while still being super sturdy. I pulled on my curtain rods after mounting them and they would not budge at all. I won't have to worry about these falling on me. Important center brace tip: Once you start to install the center brace for the larger sized sets, be careful putting to rod back in! Cover the center brace with some fabric while you screw in the rod because the brace badly scratches the rod if they rub against each other! Design: The curved ends of the rods really helps "seal off" your curtains for the optimal black-out effect. I've noticed that the finish on these rods easily comes off if you scratch it, so it'll be interesting to see how the finish holds up against the metal curtain grommets and opening and closing the curtains daily. Also, the curtains often get caught on the part of the rod where the smaller one meets the big one, but this isn't too big of a problem, just make sure you don't pull to hard and rip it all down! Overall I am happy that I chose these curtain rods. I was able to install two of these in under an hour and they are a subtle compliment to any window. I definitely will be keeping these up for years and years!

Just what I needed. Looks sleek and easy to put up.

This is a solid product. Running mine for about 100" above my windows, it was much easier to install than I had anticipated and I had it up in around 30 minutes in less than optimal working conditions. Came with drywall anchors and screws for hardware, which I used on each side. Of the 6 drywall anchors I used, 2 had issues, both attributable to my own error - One began to twist the front head in the last millimeter of hammering or so, the other broke after a few misplaced whacks with my tap hammer. Upon arrival, I was concerned about the sturdiness that I was looking for - I was to hang 4, 66" blackout curtains from it and was worried about the strength - but was pleasantly surprised to find not only an extra central bracket to rest the pole on, but that the poles mounted just on the side were well strong enough for my curtains. The mechanism is kind-of strange, as it came in 3 poles and the central pole is large enough to slip over the other 2 that actually screw into the mounts on the sides. I was worried about alignment - I was fairly precise in my installation as a result - but had no issues with getting the sliding mechanism to span both of the side rods and cover them securely. If careful, you should have no issues. The long term durability of the sliding central pole remains to be seen, but after the last few days, I'm more than satisfied with my buy.

I used these to hang my $400 fancy Pottery Barn blackout curtains. No flaws in the matte black finish. The hardware/screws seem robust. I ended up drilling these into the wood studs. Be sure to drill a pilot hole first and some beeswax/barsoap on the screw helps, too (old woodworker's trick). I have a 76" -wide window to cover so I needed the center support. It interfers slightly with the curtain overlap, but no light gets through. I don't think I can avoid having a center support with that wide of a window to cover.

This is a perfectly lovely, functional, and reasonably-priced curtain rod-- but I will mention that I have only had it up for one week so far. That said, don't be like me. If you don't have a power drill because you've "never needed one before" or "never understood why you can't just nail a hole in the wall and muscle the screw in"... stop hanging things immediately. Get yourself a $39 power drill, stop being cheap about things that you need in your life. Your mom is wrong, you should NOT feel OK asking a neighbor every time you need to borrow a drill (or honestly, every time you need to hang something, because who are you kidding - you should not borrow a drill if you've never owned a drill). SO. Step 1: Buy a drill if you don't already have one. Speaking of not borrowing a drill if you've never owned one... Definitely request assistance if you have never used any kind of drill. Drill demos and testers on YouTube assume that you have actually held a drill in your hands at some point in your life... so does the drill's instruction manual. It took me almost 2 hours to figure out how to insert a bit into my brand new drill so I could put holes in my wall to hang this lovely, functional, reasonably-priced curtain rod. Learn thrice, drill once. Step 2: Make sure you know what you're doing before you drill holes in your wall. These are not small holes. Toothpaste will not cut it as a filler. This might be the most important part (if you're still reading). THERE IS A MIDDLE BRACKET FOR THIS LOVELY, FUNCTIONAL, REASONABLY-PRICED CURTAIN ROD. If your window already has blinds, check yourself. Make sure you are planning on hanging the rod ABOVE the frame or the header thing for the blinds. You need to make sure you can drill holes and mount all three brackets - outside the left edge, above the middle of the top edge, and outside the right edge. If that doesn't make sense, take a friend on a virtual tour. Two grown-up minds work better than one + a 5yo. Step 3: Don't be like me, start drilling holes ABOVE your existing blinds header thing. Here's where it gets fuzzy. I want to tell you what you Should do... But I also want to be honest with you about what actually happened. As you may have guessed, I did not start drilling holes where I should have. But I'm a renter, and I was SO tired of learning how to drill once I noticed my error, I went ahead and drilled the right side at the same level as where I started with the left. This meant... NO MIDDLE BRACKET FOR ME. I bagged up the middle bracket and the corresponding screws and [plastic thingies that help screws be better in drywall], stuck a label on it that says "THIS SHOULD BE ON THE LIVING ROOM CURTAINS" , and locked it away in my "tool box". Step 4: Do not take my experience as science. I have two curtain panels hung on this perfectly lovely, functional, and reasonably-priced curtain rod. Everything is copacetic at the moment. The panels are too narrow for the window. They BARELY cover it when closed. This tells me the curtains are not as heavy as what a better, more domesticated, person would have hung on the rod, meaning... PLEASE CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE PROCEEDING. But. I'll go ahead and tell you that my curtains have survived so far... so... I'm either an expert handy-woman (with the perfect weight curtains).. or this perfectly lovely, functional, and reasonably-priced curtain rod is sturdier than expected. WHO KNOWS.
