I purchased this book for my daughter's summer reading project. So far she likes the book. Shipping was very fast and only Amazon had it in stock.

I put one star because it was no choices for zero stars. Please do not read this book unless your have trouble falling asleep. This book is terribly boring and contains some disgusting details about carving human's body. Not recommended.

I read this because my grandson picked this book to read for school and I read the same books so we can discuss them. But I didn't like it!

This odyssy-like adventure takes the reader from the embalming tables of ancient Egypt in Greco-Roman Alexandria, in a treacherous voyage across the mediterranean, to many of the major sites and into the path of many of the major players of the era. Damon, the young medical student from Alexandria, and his best friend seek to take a message to Damon's Roman soldier father and in the process they meet Cleopatra, Cicero,and Caesar Augustus. They attend a gladiator fight at the Colloseum, they witness a peasant uprising, and they view Caesar's war in the border area of far off Spain. Moving from one action packed calamity to another, the excitement never slows. This well-researched historical novel is fun to read as well.

We like this book, but it is for older children.... it has details of gruesome aspects of Roman life. I wasn't comfortable with some parts for my 7 and 8 year olds. I would recommend at least 10 years, but if course depends on your child.
