Dixie Belle Paint Company Chalk Mineral Paint - Caviar (32oz)

First time ever using this product, was really impressed by a few things, first being that the color itself is even more fablous in person. Second, its coverage - thicker than I expected, and only needed two coats for my project. Third, how fast it dried. This was used to paint an old trunk, and by the time I would finish painting a side, the previous side was ready for a second coat. I love how well it covered, how this aspect of the unfinished project turned out and am now thinking of other things to paint.

It covered beautifully in one coat so it saved me lot of time! Apothecary is a gorgeous dark color.

I am the least crafty person I know… definitely not fussy or detail oriented, so if I can do this and have success so can you! I wanted to cheer up a black console table by painting it navy blue and knee chalk paint is easy/durable. I was nervous that this blue would be too French country or light, but it’s perfect. When it first went on, I panicked and thought I made a huge mistake bc it was electric blue. Like the color of painters tape. But as it dried, it became a deeper, richer, more blueberry blue. I wouldn’t call it a dark navy but it has that preppy coastal vibe I was going for. Some of the pics make it seem more smurfy blue but it’s really not This was a very easy product to use. I lightly sanded just bc I happened to have an electric sander out (my contractors :) so I did the most minimal sanding ever. Then I dusted it and waited for the paint to be delivered today. I purchased a 4” foam roller, tray and chalk paint brush set at a home improvement store… maybe $11 total. I used the roller for 90% of the work and just used the chubby brush for the corners and tighter spots. So easy!!!! The first coat dried in 15 min or less, but I decided to do a second coat just to make sure I covered all the black. It is not required to do the second coat and I would have been fine with just one, but honestly it was fun and I wanted to keep painting😅 I would definitely use this brand again and thought it was a great value. I had considered donating this table bc it didn’t match my vibe anymore, but now it has a new lease on life and will go in my front entry with a new round mirror above. Exciting stuff! 10/10 recommend

First, I love this paint. Which is why I’m giving it 4.5 stars It is the top tier of chalk paints in my experience. Pigment is phenomenal. Can’t say enough about it. But the packaging is awful. This is my 2nd purchase of this paint, same color. This paint isn’t cheap so any of it going to waste is not good. The first 16oz.. the lid was cracked on the top which wasn’t so bad until the paint was opened and I had to keep plastic food wrap over the jar in order to keep it from drying out. I used it on my project rather quickly so that was a relief. This purchase of the 32oz because I had another project and then wanted to make sure I had enough to keep on hand for touch ups. As you can see from the pictures… the lid was not on properly and then sealed with paint all in side of the lid which came out in the mouth of the container… I could barely get the lid off as the paint had dried inside the cap. Once opened there was a skin on the paint where the lack of seal had cause a surface dry out. Container was also damaged. As you can see if had to pick away at dried paint on the mouth and on the inside of the lid just to be able to secure it for storage. Again, this stuff isn’t cheap and if a price increase is what is needed in order to get a container that is a little more durable, I would be willing to pay instead of having the risk of it completely drying out. I have yet to find this item in any craft store in my area so online purchase seems to be the only route to purchase… if so, the packing and shipping needs to improve.

I just recently learned about chalk paint and am hooked on it! I got this Barn Red color and it's beautiful! I used it on some little DIY projects like this long, narrow organizer that now sits on the back edge of a table where I store bills, papers, magazines, office supplies, etc. Love it! But, I was so thrilled, I ordered more. It showed up with a broken lid and paint all over the inside of the envelope. I requested a replacement which also was delivered broken and leaking. Not sure whether to blame the packaging or the mailman, but I think I will try other vendors who do not ship via US MAIL. But I really love this stuff when it arrives safely! Very easy to apply; goes a long way; cleans up easily; takes a nice coat of polyurethane with no issues; beautiful rich color! Very pleased! Oct, 2025: changing from 4 stars to 5. As I mentioned above and many other echoed, the paint is great! The package delivery is hit-or-miss. I tried 4 other brands of chalk paint and none had the same coverage or quite right colors, so I came back, ordered a few colors in larger sizes which were delivered well. I painted some of my DIY projects (workbench drawer fronts, "beer raft", shelves and bins, etc.) Results are amazing! Thrilled to be back!
