Not a story book; its educational. Liked the summer book better though.
Overall this book is intended to be interactive. The pages expect the child to answer questions, name objects, and think about what might help a situation. Therefore this is not a story book but an educational book. Parents should be engaging with the child as the book is read together. The book also includes a number of craft projects including making fruit compote, a paper bird/airplane. and a bat. There is also a guide for parents on how to engage with their child on the topics covered in the book: day length changing, harvesting foods, animals preparing for winter, migration, fall festivals/songs, and the characteristics of summer.Overall, I liked the summer book better. I felt the craft projects in the this book did not link as well with the material, the focus on festivals and songs seemed almost a cop-put compared to the amount of material in the previous book... I just felt it could have been a better. In my opinion, the best way to use this book is to read one section of the book at a time... then build on the topic presented with other resources like adding in a fictional story, a science book, poetry, crafts/projects, going on exploratory walks, outings, etc. In this way, you can use the book as a great springboard at the start of fall in order to jump into the season and set up fun things to do together as a family over weekends - such a practice will benefit your child's eduction and character as well as solidify family ties You can develop a number of fun fall-themed lesson plans to keep your child learning and practicing skills at home (and perhaps provide more interesting topics than what is being covered at school). Even if you finish this book and everything it has to offer, you can decide what other fall topics really connect with your child and then make further lessons from that to fill in the rest of the season. Maybe you will get a book on how to make kites or how to predict the weather from the cloud shapes.... perhaps you will get out a fall cookbook and bake pies together or carve jack-o-lanterns... or perhaps you will get into science and study why there are changes in day length or why the leaves change color.... maybe you will collect leaves and identify which trees they came from or learn about other animals that migrate besides swallows.... or maybe you will sew together a Halloween outfit?Just never let a child think all that they need to learn comes at school. Schools are failing our kids so don't rely on them to give your child all the knowledge they need in life. Never let a weekend go by without engaging a child in learning. It makes a big difference in their life.

book of seasons
It is easy to engage the readers with this book especially with the children friendly illustrations. Important words describing fall are in bold: cooler, colors, chestnuts and mushrooms...snails and windy also bring children to remember what fall is about. After reading the book, the activities at the end on how to make a compote, a paper bird and a bat are also excellent projects to make around the time of Fall. Working at school, we definitely had a lot of fun making projects such as leaf rubbings and a bat around Halloween time. I suggest this book for those who work with or around children.
