The cutters on our pliers are very strong carbide cutter and probably can cut wire. But we would not recommend it as this prolonged use such as this could damage the cutters over time.

The plier dimensions are 7.2" X 3.0"
They are not oversized.

**Q: I just got my order and the tips seem really small- like needle nose- are they big/strong enough for getting out big hooks???**
A: Yes, I have had no issues with these pliers. Had no bending present when removing hooks. Like them a lot. Will be getting another pair for my other backpack.
