There are like 16 or 17 books to the whole series now and I read them all as they came out. I am reading them all again now. It is hands down the best series and world I have ever been too and I wish I lived there! LOL! The characters are very real and easy to see. Anne McCaffrey is one of the best authors I have ever read. I have read almost all of her books and I cried when she passed because she won't be here to take me to new places and people anymore. The Dragonriders of Pern series makes me want to be a better person, a more caring person. The writing is fast, interesting and involved. I would urge anyone from 12 to 100 to lose themselves in Pern and her dragons and their brave riders. Loved them all. Five star reading all the way! They would be as popular as the Harry Potter books. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Don't let Hollywood ruin these books! *by T***O on April 26, 2011* I felt a need to write a review of these books after reading that a movie version is in the works. Please, please do not ruin these wonderful books like SciFi destroyed the fabulous Earthsea series by Ursula K LeGuin a few years back! I first read the novella Dragonrider in a science fiction anthology many years ago in college, and I re-read this trio of books every couple of years and never get tired of it. Anne McCaffrey has created an amazing world of lost technology, deadly Thread, and an interesting cast of characters in a wonderfully drawn society that continues to endure years after its creation. Of course, there are the dragons- both the huge telepathic beasts and the dainty fire lizards. I remember discussing with my fellow geeky college friends how we all wanted our very own fire lizard . For me, these three books and the Harper Hall trilogy were the best. I have not consistently read subsequent books, but I admit that I have not liked the follow up books nearly as much as I liked the aforementioned works. There is a freshness about the first trilogy that seems absent later on, and I think the story of the struggle to find the lost history and technology of the planet while seeking to eliminate Thread was incredibly well written and interesting. I also found the characters of F'lar, Lessa, F'nor , Robinton, Fandarel, Jaxom, etc. and their dragons to be the most appealing to me- I simply couldn't get as involved in some of Ms. McCaffrey's later characters. So, pay attention, Hollywood! These books are classic. They deserve to be adapted to the big screen by someone who appreciates them and will not change the story to be more "Hollywood." I would rather that they never make it into film if they are butchered by some producers lookig to make a quck and cheap buck. Addendum: RIP Anne McCaffrey. Thank you for all the years of entertainment and for making dragons real.
