Meinl Percussion Tambourine for Adults & Church — NOT MADE IN CHINA

I recently added this to my arsenal of tambourines. Meinl's website has video links featuring a frazzled looking guy demoing their ABS tambourines. I was reluctant to buy this (or any) instrument untried but the video was enough for me to give it a try. Sturdy and hefty, mine weighed in at 497 grams (~1.1 lbs) which is on the heavy side for a hand tambourine. The brass jingles are all uniform in sound and have 5 dimples. 28 jingles altogether, which I'm sure contributes to the weight ... and the sound. Held vertically, you can get a lot of finger-cymbal-like ring from this tambourine. Held diagonal or horizontal you can get a great darker rock or folk sound. The sound isn't as bright as nickle/steel tambourines, but I am impressed with how lively I can get this tambourine to sound. A lot of versatility in sound make this a good choice for a wide range of music where you don't want such a cutting steel sound. My only complaint so far is the "padded soft grip", which while adequate is a bit loose and I'm hoping will hold up to my uses. My new favorite? Time will tell.

This tambourine is very well made. Has a nice sound. Edges are rounded and grip fits well in my smaller hand.

I have several tambourines but they all have silver or steel jingles. In the mix of a song, the tambourine always sounds thin and weak. I finally tried brass and it has the right effect. The pitch of the jingles is one whole step lower than the same Meinl with silver jingles. It's about 20% heavier too. The jingles also ring for about 8-10 seconds on open hits whereas the silvers just die out right away. My guess is I'll end up with a 1/2 brass, 1/2 silver tambourine at some point to get the best of both worlds but I'd recommend buying this if you're into a deeper tone than the usual tambourine.

Nice tambourine. Well constructed, and has some weight to it, which I assume is do to the density of the plastic used. I wouldn't think I would ever say this about a tambourine, but this thing is actually pretty loud (almost hurts my ears), which would be a benefit if you're playing with other instruments, or in a live performance. Definitely a buy, and I would buy other Meinl products based off of this tambourine.

The best tambourine I've ever played. The quality is excellent and it's well constructed of solid materials. The brass jingles are excellent and the instrument plays as it should. It doesn't make superfluous noises when not wanted. This is the real deal. Not for weaklings and children. I'm thrilled with the product!!!!

Sounds great and is durable. It's heavy though. Be prepared for a little workout. Takes a while to ship too.

Comparing this with a another tambourine that I use in our band, it’s heavier and has a higher ring to it. I really don’t prefer this one over the one we use in rehearsal. The heaviness really matters over time. And the high pitch is unprofessional sounding. I’m going to bring it to church though because it can still be used but not for a whole 45 minutes set.

I have used this instrument for over a month now with our band and I am very happy with it. It’s very easy to hold and manipulate to get variation in ring length and accents. It has a very pleasing ring tone (no clacking). I’m so glad I watched the attached video of these products as it’s exactly what I was looking for at a reasonable price.

Rien à voir avec ce que j'ai pu avoir dans le passé, dont une Meinl bois TA2M-SNT qui me tailladait la main et que j'ai explosé à cause de ça (pas malin je sais). Là on a une poignée mousse ultra agréable, un look magnifique et un belle résonnance et un son hyper riche top pour le studio. Niveau volume sonore c'est super loud! Elle pèse son poid mais du coup on sent que c'est pas du toc.
