I consider this book to be one of Galloway's better books for competitive running
I consider this book to be one of Galloway's better books for competitive running, with it's somewhat greater emphasis on competitive running than that of many of his other texts. It's aimed primarily at younger runners (and/or their coaches) and middle distances, but the information applies well to competitive runners of most ages.I think the methodology and philosophy presented are relevant and timely, and that more coaches and athletes should use a similar approach, wherein the health of the athlete and love of movement is more of a concern than is competitive prowess; this as opposed to burying themselves and/or their teams in over-training, while pushing the love of running right out of them. The run-walk-run methodology is presented, as it is in all of Galloway's books, but it's deemphasized for in-season veterans, and for those running or racing sub-8 minute miles, a concept I don't remember seeing in his other books. Recovery after hard days is strongly emphasized for maintaining the health of the team and for allowing adaptation, a concept many coaches I've observed seem to largely ignore. My biggest complaint with Galloway's books is that they're all largely redundant- I have no idea why there are so many, when they all contain very similar content. This one is no exception. However, I find it's more competitive emphasis both refreshing and more functional than most of his others.

Training Youth Cross Country
A very good book with the basics. I am trying to impart what I remember from my cross country days to my young runner in the family. The book does a good job of identifying key areas of focus, and how consistency and moderation are critical.

Great book at a great price!
Book was just as advertised, arrived in better condition than I expected, and was very much on time. I was very pleased with my purchase of "Cross Country Running" by Jeff Galloway.

Solid & comprehensive
Galloway seems to thoroughly cover every possible topic relevant to cross country. He has very good credentials so the material seems to be fact based. I am a bit surprised that he advocates so much rest and also lots of walking as a warm up. I plan to employ some of his suggestions.
