I see in one of the photos there is the detector then a pump and probe. Do you need both items to monitor H2S in the air?

No you dont. If you just want to monitor the air in ambient conditions, like in a room, then simply placing the detector and registering results is OK. However in some cases, where there are isolated spaces or in toxic spaces (large drains) where it may be dangerous for one to walk in with the detector, a gas sampling probe would be warranted in such a case to sample the air from the "danger zone" and draw it to the detector which would be in the "safe zone". Can i use it to detect H2S on water well?

Indeed you can! But you will need the pump to draw the sample and have a long tube down to the well.
