Excellent order and logic or learning Sanskrit from scratch....
Brilliant curriculum for schools and DIYer Sanskrit scholars. Using it daily to expand Sanskrit knowledge.Knowing about many other books, I prefer this one. It's teaching style is genius, never intimidating, completely graspable. In short: The 2 volumes are crux of Panini grammar, in a very comprehensible way, including expercises.

Really a great primer
It's the best primer in Sanskrit I believe, for its detailed and step-by-step lessons inside. Also the seller in India delivered my goods in a really fast speed, thank you!!

What a great language!
This textbook is great. Sanskrit is not an easy language to learn but the lessons are not too big so everything is manageable. Sure there are many declensions, but that should not discourage anyone, because with frequent repetitions, everything is done in a satisfactory way. I personally find that Sanskrit is a beautiful language and that everyone will enjoy learning it. Also knowledge of this language will deepen your understanding of all Sanskrit translations as many things cannot be translated adequately in English or any other language for that matter.

The best textbook to learn Sanskrit!
Introduction to Sanskrit by Thomas Egenes is the best textbook I have come across to learn Sanskrit (and I have a few). It teaches Sanskrit in manageable pieces, with simple exercises and "recalls" in summary pages after each chapter. It also provides Sandhi transliteration right from the beginning (in brackets), in order for the learner to easily get accustomed to Sandhi. The only minor shortcoming is the use of some older spelling conventions in Devanagari e.g. for "a", but it is not a major issue. In short, this book is highly recommended for anybody who wants to learn Sanskrit in an easy , fun and efficient way. Highly recommendable.

Best book to get started
Sanskrit is not as much about sentence construction as it is about the study of words (Shabda). Sanskrit is perhaps the most heavily inflected language & you will never progress in learning Sanskrit if you start with 'Spoken Sanskrit' unless probably you learn sentences by heart, by way of repeated usage. That's not the way to learn this beautiful, terrific, ancient wisdom. The method adopted in this book worked for me and I could see myself progressing rapidly. I somehow couldn't find a decent Sanskrit tutor although I live in the hub of Sanskrit institutions. It is mighty important to learn, especially a deep subject like Sanskrit, from an able & experienced tutor. I am glad I could learn from Thomas. His attention to detail, to each syllable, is what a beginner desperately needs.I am on Chapter 15 & I can read, identify the sandhis in a sentence (break it down/form), identify the tense, and resolve the entire sentence to understand its correct meaning. The exercise in the book is the heart and the rules enumerated before it is the soul of this book. It is a completely wholesome method of understanding the rules of grammar and practicing/applying them.It is so much fun to progress through the book as you will feel a sense of accomplishment (which I could never until now feel as I felt I kept going round and round with no result) after each chapter. It reminded me of my simple school days. There are 3 more chapters, tables to go through again, and some Sanskrit verses at the end of the book. I am ready for part 2 of this book.
