โThereโs a book I recommend for everybody: Itโs Howard Gardnerโs Frames of Mind . It has helped me immensely.โ โ Robert Greene, author of The 48 Laws of Power What do we mean when we call someone smart? That they are good at math and got a high score on the SAT? That they learn languages easily? Those traits might be what comes to mind first: they are what underly psychologyโs classic definition of intelligence, and what we are told in school that a smart person can do. But they are not the whole story. As Howard Gardner argues in the groundbreaking classic Frames of Mind , to limit our understanding of intelligence to โbook smartsโ misses much of what makes human beings amazing. Someone who plays an instrument well is exhibiting intelligence. So, too, someone who knows how to do physical comedyโis their mastery of their movements and the space around them not brilliant? And to have a profound knowledge of their own self, their relationships with others, and relationships between others, too, is to show great intelligence as well. Gardner calls this the theory of multiple intelligences. But this isnโt just a book for intellectuals who want to argue about what intelligence is, or educators debating how to teach. It is for each of us. In an era of teaching to the test, and increasingly powerful artificial intelligence, Gardnerโs work is a celebration of all the ways there are to be human. Review: FRAMES OF MIND By Howard Garner is a great book. - FRAMES OF MIND the theory of multiple intelligences by the author Howard Garner is a book people need to read to reconize the differents ability or IQ ,and the bodily languages from people or them. It deserve 5 stars. Review: very interesting insight - The idea of multiple intelligence is incredible! Reading it, I was able to see my giftedness is mathematical-logical. I also realized to be successful, people triangulate through their top three or so intelligences. Just one alone isnโt enough to be successful in the world. And knowing the intelligences, you can look at individuals and see the ones theyโre good at and triangulated through. Having said that, itโs an extremely dull read. Wish he would re-write the book for mass consumption. 20% of the book has the value. Iโm going to see his other books and see if heโs written one focused just on understanding the intelligences better rather than all this other stuff thatโs in this book. I just want to go deep on the intelligences, and get a better understanding of them.

Insightful Conclusions That Are Worth The Read
In this book Gardner seeks to change the notion of intelligence as a single inherited trait that can be measured solely by a paper and pencil test such as an IQ test. In this endeavor, he methodically defines several types of autonomous intelligences including linguistic intelligence, musical intelligence, logical-mathematical intelligence, spatial intelligence, bodily-kinesthetic intelligence, and the personal intelligences. These intelligences are common to all of us, where are unique talents develop are from the multiplicities of ways these intelligences can combine. With the first edition printed in 1983, some vocabulary and research used in the analysis might be out of date, yet the principles remain completely relevant. The read maybe technical at times but the conclusions are insightful, and it is worth the effort. Despite the wide growth and application of the framework within education, culturally there is room to improve in identifying talents and supporting growth in areas beyond traditional thoughts about intelligence.

A Dense but Groundbreaking Exploration of Human Potential
Frames of Mind by Howard Gardner is a groundbreaking book that challenges the traditional idea of intelligence as a single measurable factor (like IQ). Instead, Gardner introduces the Theory of Multiple Intelligences, arguing that humans possess a variety of intellectual strengths โ such as linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and later naturalistic intelligence. The book is dense at times, but itโs full of research, examples, and compelling arguments that expand how we think about human ability. One of its greatest strengths is that it doesnโt just appeal to educators and psychologists โ it makes readers re-examine their own skills and the way they see others. That said, the writing can feel academic and heavy, especially if youโre not used to theory-driven works. Itโs not a light weekend read, but it is rewarding. The concepts have had a huge impact on education, though critics argue that some of the โintelligencesโ may be better described as talents or personality traits rather than distinct forms of intelligence. Still, whether you agree with every point or not, Frames of Mind is a high-quality, thought-provoking book that has influenced classrooms, training programs, and leadership strategies worldwide. TL;DR: A dense but important book that redefines intelligence, expands our understanding of human potential, and sparks meaningful debate in education and psychology.

Concepts good, writing bad
The concepts in the book I agree with, but the vocabulary and writing style is awful. "Overly complicated and unnecessarily confusing.." is how I would describe trying to read this book. The concepts and ideas are not confusing, but the choice of vocabulary used in the book makes no sense. For example, "..search for an essence of humanity has led, with seeming ineluctability, to a focus...". This is a good example of how the entire book reads and feels like the author was writing out of a thesaurus. Unrelated but the book arrived damaged due to poor packaging (soft envelope with no padding), so, overall awful experience with this book. I hope to find a more accessible version of the concepts.

How wonderful our subtle physical make-up really is
Still reading it. It is everything I expected!! I'm still curious as to how many types of intelligence people have and how to access them. I learned a long time ago that we all have 12 types of intelligence. Isn't this just sooo curious?? Am fascinated that Daniel Coleman gained his insights from reading Howard Gardners book on Frames of Mind. Emotional Intelligence is important and can be used for the benefit of the self and others. How wonderful our subtle physical make-up really is!

A keeper and sharer.
Well written with a number of styles for reasonable accessibility to the non-expert. Deep and researched enough to give confidence to the reader that the grounding for the ideas is in evidence based research and that the references can be traced. I'd say worth the read for anyone in education as well as for personal development. Also a good reference for differentiation and assessment of learners.
