French drama. A middle-aged schoolteacher begins to tutor one of his students privately, a young girl with a difficult past (Vanessa Paradis). They begin an affair which is destined to wreck the schoolteacher's marriage.

Intelligent, mature and moving.
Noce Blanche is the story of a relationship between a teacher and one of his students. I first watched this about five years ago, and it is still one of my favourite films. I suspect, like most men, I bought this more due to the appeal of seeing a (then 18 years old) Vanessa Paradis flaunting around in her birthday suit than with a view to any greater understanding of foreign cinema. Ahem. Well, I'm pleased to say that the film doesn't disappoint in this respect. The nudity is fairly subtle, though, and of an artistic, realistic, form; if you're expecting a fantasy film you may be a little disappointed. The love scenes, also, are virtually none existent, but don't let this spoil your enjoyment: this is a top quality film and well worth buying.I was surprised to discover a mature and realistic drama. This is well written, and perfectly captures both the teenage and middle aged vulnerabilities and torments that ravage us all. All that pining: Oh to be mature and sophisticated; oh to be young again. This is excellent; sweet at times, sour at others, never anything less than realistic and unforgiving. The acting is exemplary (Paradis won a César award). The characters are well developed, confidently acted and mature (it has to be said, once again: it seems foreign cinema is the place to rediscover what it is like to be an adult -- watch and compare this to some of the OTT childish dross masquerading as adult drama on TV nowadays). The cinematography and locations are also beautifully filmed, and the story is paced well, drawing you into the plot and leaving you... Well, I won't give the game away but the ending is powerful and sadly believable. All in all, I can't recommend this enough. This is a film that will both stay with you, and find a place amongst your favourite DVD's. If it opens the door to a more mature and sophisticated taste in entertainment, also, it can't be too bad, can it?

No English subtitles on the Blu-ray.
I first saw this film in a Paris cinéma when it was first released. My French isn't too good so it was hard to follow. However to me it seemed so realistic and well acted that after the sad ending I left the cinéma fighting back tears.Out of all Vanessa Paradis' movies I feel that this is her finest performance and it was her first movie, for which she won the César award (France's equivalent of the Oscars) and well deserved it.I would recommend this movie, but it could do with a Blu-ray version that has English subtitles (this edition only has French subtitles).

Tragic Beauty
This may be the most heartbreaking film ever made: the relationship described is utterly taboo, yet somehow Paradis and Cremer, with their performances, enable the film to be about much more than that. It is about love, impossible love, forbidden love, love that behaves badly, love that doesn't necessarily have a happy ending, quite the contrary. The ending of this film is utterly shattering: if you are of a sensitive disposition, it's recommended to have something available to mop of the flood of tears that is likely to ensue. Finally, this film proves that there is such a thing as tragic beauty.

Scandal Film?
The French film-makers are the past masters in making films on scandalous subjects(at least to the staid British sensitvity). This film is not much different:It deals with the love between middle-aged school teacher and a problem female student. The subject itself is really not new. Hollywood had already made a film on similar lines with the film GIRL'S DORMITORY in 1936. The chances are there that the French one is inspired by this film directed by Irving Cummings. The teacher's role played by Herbert Marshall and curiously enough, the school girl's role played a French actress called Simone Simon. Of course, the French have departed from the original in many ways. In the Girl's Dormitory the teacher is a bachelor. The French film shows a lot of nudity, which the Hollywood in those days could not even dream of. Cinematically, the Girls Dormitory is a far better film and entertaing at that! Incidentally, it is first film of Tyrone Power, where he has a cameo as the boy friend of the school girl.I could not really figure out the psychological reason for the obsession of the girl for her teacher in the French film. Did she want a father figure or was it just what the French call amour fou? Nevertheless, the film is worth watching for the performace of Vanessa Paradis. The overall atmosphere in the film is somber and tense. I feel that apart from the shocking subject, the film does not have much to offer. You can easily skip the film.

Culte

Sehr gut!
