Practice Chanter

I really researched my practice chanters before finally deciding on the McCallum. As a new piper, I knew that getting a quality instrument was important to my future playing ability. The McCallum practice chanter produces a nice mellow tone, in my opinion better sounding than the popular Gibson chanters the majority of my pipe band use. Also being a long chanter is very nice because it you are able to rest it on your leg or table while playing, really relieving the stress off your fingers to hit those tricky grace notes. Did not come with a reed, just as advertised, but unlike other review say. I got a Gibson reed to go with it and it sounds great.I will always recommend the McCallum long chanter to anyone looking to get into bagpiping.

It plays well and prepares a new player to transition easier from chanter to actual pipes. The reed I was sent would not work well on this chanter or my standard sized one; however, Gibson reeds work perfectly. Overall, it had fast shipping and it was a thrifty purchase.

I recently purchased this practice chanter from McGlothlin Music through amazon. It was a little bit shorter than I was expecting (and am used to), but still definitely an adult sized chanter. It arrived much faster than I expected it to, so I was very pleased about that. And upon opening the package I also found they sent a reed with it too! It was not described as coming with that (that I recall) and it was a very pleasant surprise! One less trip before being about to start practicing!Overall the chanter is in perfect condition, shipping was super fast, and this company understands that for a chanter to be a full instrument and useful it needs to have a reed!Very impressed. I purchased this chanter along with a Gibson reed because of a previous review that said the reed didn't work well.To me, both reeds worked equally perfect I would recommend this to a friend in a heartbeat.
