Lower abv absinthe with licorice.
Imagine a fine absinthe - the only one I'd genuinely describe as "fine" is the pricey La Fรฉe Parisienne, as all the others have been chock full of artificial colours and flavouring - but somewhat dialed back on the alcohol and a little extra added sugar and some licorice extract. Deceptively strong (45% abv) yet exceptionally smooth and transparent ethanol (drinkable alcohol if you didn't already know), with aniseed and a little extra sugar sweetness, a touch of herbal bitters and a lingering licorice finish. If it wasn't for the added sugar (I'm trying to avoid diabetes in addition to just about dodging liver disease!) this would be a regular weekend delivery, x2 minimum, especially since it's frequently on a discount of around the ยฃ23 mark.

Perfect
There are two options available on Amazon and one is a few quid more expensive. I've bought both and I fancy the UK duty paid (cheaper) one is a tad more spicy than the more costly one which is a little more fruity. This seems to be reflected in the product details description but there is no obvious difference in the labelling. Both are good but the pricier one is better to my mind. Both have the lovely strong aniseed flavour and I prefer them to Pernod. They're also a better colour when mixed with water. Ricard is a lovely milky-beige whilst Pernod has a slightly synthetic green tinge to it. Anyway it's a fantastic precursor to you're Moules Mariniere!

Nice
We usually buy Pernod as it's easily available in the supermarket, but I find this has a nicer mouthfeel and flavour.
